Pressure Reducing Valve Question

So recently our water pressure has dropped a bit so I did some research on how to adjust the pressure. Upon inspection of the valve below, there is a slow drip coming from the nut. Can this somehow be repair with some teflon tape since its located in a hard to access location?

Might be a rebuild kit available. Most would probably say that's a crap shoot and you just replace it with the same model.

Im hoping that black piece can just be unscrewed and replaced without cutting a whole in the wall. I would happily pay a plumber to do that if it will save me drywall work!

We've lived in our home for 20 years, I had to replace ours after 15 years then the replacement only lasted 2 years.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

That regulator is bad. There is an O-ring that seals it where it's leaking. Those plastic valve body ones are junk. If you have to replace it make sure you don't try to save a few buck and replace it with another cheap one. The all brass body USA made ones last forever. You may be able to turn off the water main valve, relieve the pressure by opening up a spigot or faucet and try turning the regulator counter clock wise about 4 turns then back clockwise 4 more to reseat the O=ring but it's probably toast.

....and use a "sharkbite" one instead of soldering. Easy!

Here is picture of a Sharkbite. Not necessarily the one your need. I replaced mine about 8 years ago.

As a fwiw, sharkbite fittings should be accompanied with a bonding wire on copper as they are not rated for the grounding required

Also, be sure you open the "hot water side" of you faucet too, after turning the water supply off. There might be pressure built up in the tank.
