Is this normal?

This is my setup:

HK AVR630
Polk RTi8's
Polk CSi5
Polk Fxi3's
Polk PSW505 (MB 400 Interconnect)
All connected with Monster XPHP Cable

Here's the problem:

No mater what type of input (DVD, CD, TV) there is a buzz noise coming from all of my tweeters. I can only really hear the buzz when I’m 2 feet or less from the speakers. When I MUTE the AVR the buzz disappears.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Has the buzz always been there? If not, what have you hooked / un hooked lately?

Could be a ground loop. Start with disconnecting your Sat dish / cable / tv from the loop and check again.
Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

At what volume level are you hearing the buzz? Don't tell us -30 or somesuch, is it at 9 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock...etc.

I hooked this system up about two weeks ago, it's been buzzing since then. I tried unplugging sources but still the same buzz.

By the way PearPC rocks :)

Unfortunately with HK AVR630 I can't tell you whether the Volume is at 9 or 12 o’clock.

But I can tell you that I hear the buzz at all volumes. But when I mute it the buzz disappears.

Ok, try plugging the HK into it's own outlet and see what happens, but I recall someone else having this problem and they had to send the AVR back for service.

Yep, seems to be. Like I said, I recall some others having the same problem with the HK AVR's. You can do a search here for that info.

make sure none of your speaker wires are touching each other or anything metal.

I'd try unplugging all of your speakers and components from your HK. then by process of elimination.. start hooking things up one at at a time.

start off with just your HK and your front speakers.. with everything else disconnected from the HK. listen to FM radio and see if the noise is still there. if so. i'd say the HK is the problem. Then hook up your CD player. still with only the two front speakers.. see what the results are then. I know it's a hassle.. but you're trying to isolate where the buzz is coming from.

Sometimes you'll find it's a bad speaker wire some where or connection.

You dont still have your AVR110 laying around do you? If so hook her up. If you still hear the noise than the problem is not the AVR630.

So I took my old HK AVR110 and hooked it up to my speakers.... no buzzing :( , it must be my damn new AVR630 receiver that’s causing the buzz.

So I call HK support here in Canada and I explained that with my AV110 my speakers don't buzz, using the same power cord speaker wire. They tell me the buzzing in the AVR630 is normal because it has a higher wattage than the Avr110.

    This can’t be true?

Anyways my next step is to take it in for service, they won’t give me a new one their just going to repair this one.

    I’m pissed

    Thanks for reading.

If anyone in this forum has an AVR630 could you please PM me and let me know if you’re having the same problem.

    Buzzing is NOT normal, period.

Take it back, sell it, throw it away......whatever, just get a new and different brand receiver.

Is it too late to return it to the store you bought it from?

    Yup :(

I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before I get my AVR back, I don't mind as long as the buzzing is fixed.
