RX-V2400 no OSD at 1080i only 480i??

My Yamaha RX-V2400 will not put out On Screen Display when using 1080i as in HD TV... Yamaha said this is correct and will only work in 480i. This seems like a pretty big oops if you ask me as everything will be going to HD shortly. Yamaha says there is no way around this... anyone have any thoughts on a solution and why this is occuring?

    So you’re excited about your HDTV.

    Yamaha’s reason is compatibility. 99% of the current TV’s will accept the RCA input {480}.

    You would think Yamaha could do a bit more on the graphics on the OSD.

    They remind me of the Atari 2600 days.
