What model are these speakers?

These are being sold at a local estate auction. I know they are Polks but I don't know the model. Does anybody have a clue on what they are?

Could be the RT-5's? I have the 5's they sound okay. The 5's had trouble with the woofer's going bad when driven hard.

    Polk RT-5 dimensions.

The RT-7's are 19" tall. The RT-5's are 14.5" tall. Hard to tell from photo which they are.
  • Thanks that give me a good idea on what they are. Based on google pics I'm going to guess they are rt7s since they look a little big for book shelves.

  • For reference/comparison the auction ad states that the cabinet they are next to measures 24'' x 18 1/2'' x 48 1/2''. So ya... "shrug"

    Definitely big bookies, not floorstanders.

Probably worth buying at the right price IMHO, since the all Yamaha system in the cabinet looks like it was carefully purchased, and well cared for. As an owner of RT55s, I’d suggest that big bookies like this from Polk tend to perform just like floorstanders. Take the stands with you, if you can, otherwise you’ll just have to go shopping for the stands yourself. Those look sturdy, (which is a good thing), although I’ve seen more attractive (which is, unfortunately IMHO, exceedingly rare).

Funny that they never figured out that they were upside down, maybe they’ve been that way for years, so it might be worth checking for cosmetic damage (scratching) on the “top”, which has been subjected to wear because of being placed upside down on the stands all this time.

Also, the quality of the speaker wire looks terrible. Maybe that explains the upside down installation: careful buyer, but not entirely well informed. 🤔 😔

Ya I'm debating it. Depends on the price and whether or not I grab the uturn turntable that is up for auction. Ofcourse I already have some lsi 9s, sda 2bs, klipsch kg4, among others. At this point if i'm not careful my family is going to hold a audio intervention for me lol. Might be a good idea to hold off getting new speakers till after I build my Statements and sell some stuff. Definitely grabbing the uturn if it stays at the right price.

LSi-9's are much better speakers than the RT-7's

Yes... if you have LSi9s not sure why you’d go down to the RT range. They’re good HT speakers, and big RT bookies would be decent for music too, but not equivalent.

There’s a lot of good stuff out there, but no need to hoard, just for the sake of a good deal that you don’t need IMO.

These would be better suited to somebody building their first 2.0 or 2.1 system on a budget.

  • Ya I didn't grab them. No need hoard indeed. I just grabbed the Uturn turntable. When I use my current turntable(Technics sl-d2) I get a hum and can hear the motor when paired with my SDA's. I'm hoping the Uturn will be quieter, if not it shouldn't be to hard to recover my money or give it to a family member to enjoy it.
