Polk Audio LSI 15

Hi All! I posted in the technical forum as well, but hoping someone can help me. I picked up a pair of LSI 15 speakers. While they sound great, I feel like they have more to offer based on reviews of these speakers. I'm currently powering them with an Adcom GFA-5300 amp (125 watts per channel @ 4ohm). I know these speakers are power hungry. Do you think getting a more powerful amp (~300 watt) would truly make these sing? I'm going to play around with the speaker placement, and I also have a Mitsubishi DA-C20 tuner/preamp (just FYI). Any thoughts are appreciated!

Depends what you feel you are lacking. Bass, high end, clarity?

A more powerful amp will improve them, but not life-changingly so.

When I had mine, a 250w amp improved them a bit, and then a subwoofer modification helped them a bit more. Then I eventually graduated.

Not to talk you out of the 15’s because that’s not what your trying to do, but for the cost of an amp and then 15’s you could probably have a pair of 705’s, which are a better overall speaker.

The 15's are very particular about placement. With the side firing woofer, they need space from side walls. You can replace the woofer with a DB840 from their car audio line for cleaner bass. These are getting harder to find and I think some have used the DXi and event the MM series woofers.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I'm trying to improve their imaging. I'm happy with the low end for now. I think one of my biggest problems is they are currently set up in a very small room, and I don't have much flexibility with their placement. Eventually I will move them to a larger space (just waiting to renovate my second floor) Thanks again!

Thanks! are you referring to the VR3 crossover mod? If so, how much did it cost?

Look into room treatments. I had made some sound absorbing panel using Rock Wool for his studio. Occasionally I'll borrow them and set them on the walls beside the speakers and am amazed how the sound stage open up. I need to build some for my rig if I can find some covering that my wife will like.
