I'd LOVE to hear just the drum solos on my Polk SRS2s and the Triton Ones. Also the Newform Research 645Rs. Heck, even the Polk Monitor 10s would make his drum playing sound like he's playing in the room.

He had the talent since he was a little boy. B)

If I was given a set of drums for Christmas instead of a bicycle when I WAS YOUNG, I might've been in a band and who knows...
I STILL want to play drums like the greats can. :D
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Many a great drummer so I will narrow it down to the best technical skills, IMHO.

    Carl Palmer
    Bill Bruford
    Neil Peart.

    Bill Ward--Black Sabbath

After seeing a Black Sabbath reunion in 2013 without Bill Ward, but using Tommy Clufetos as their drummer reminded me of the physical energy it took for "Bill Ward" Black Sabbath drummer. Bill Ward a top 5 easily IMHO.

    Clufetos did a great job.

Mike Mangini took Portnoy's place and was a professor while I was at Berklee. Was fortunate enough to learn from him. And then there's Terry Bozzio... Both have limb independence like no others.

    @WLDock can't forget Art Blakey

I saw Mangini live with Dream Theater a few months back. He is very good and is a great replacement for Portnoy.

I'll toss in an honorable mention, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. IMO a cross between Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy; lost WAY too soon. He had amazing speed, timing, touch, technicality and musicality. {Most (I think all) of Nightmare was demo'd by Jimmy before Mike jumped into to help them out}.

It's tough to name a best with variations in genre, and technical skills vs. musicality, and then personal preference.

I am partial to Neil Peart, but love Mike Portnoy's F'd up musicality that fits in Dream Theater. Mike Mancini is very good, but in a lot that I have heard from him, something is missing. I also find Mike P.'s versatility amazing. IMO he reminds me of Tom Hanks in a movie, I often know it's Tom acting, and it's tough to shake that, but he convey's the character extremely well.

For me there are a lot of great drummers

    Some overlooked
    Cozzy Powell
    Tommy Aldridge
Herman Rarebell, some people say he sucked but I do like his style and foot work. He did play for the Scorpions for over 20 years.

    Keith Moon
    John Bonham
    Ringo
    Neil Peart

When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.
