I'm scared to hook my McIntosh MC2100 to SDA SRS 2 Common Ground Help??

Hi, I just got a great deal on some very nice SDA SRS 2's and I can't wait to try them out. But I'm scared to hook them up, I have no idea if my amp is Common Ground, or how to even check. Does anyone know if I am safe to Rock these baby's with my Vintage McIntosh MC2100? Thank you! John

Hi John - I have an MC300, which is common ground, no issues. Do you have the interconnect cable? Until you're sure, you can run em without the cable. If no one here can say for sure, reach out to McIntosh technical service, as they are very responsive.

In the meantime, rock on!

According to the circuit diagram, the MC2100 is common ground (chassis ground, in fact).

  • Thanks everyone! Can't wait to hear these puppy's. Would anyone care to let me know why its best to keep them close to the wall? I have been told that 8" ideal?

For a reality check get your Multimeter out and check the resistance between the L and R speaker grounds with everything off. It should be very close to zero. On my multimeter it reads 0.6 ohms (the same value you get when you short the DMM leads together). That means they are connected together internally the amp.

From the Polk user manual. I have my SRS's about 6" from the back wall. Hope this helps.
