SDA 1 pin style interconnect cable wanted

Many years ago I bought a pair of SDA 1 speakers from a friend. Unfortunately he had lost the interconnect cable. I have the pin style connectors. Does anyone have a cable they would like to sell or instructions on how I can build my own.

That looks odd to me. Is it the original connector?

Usually they have 2 blades or 1 pin and 1 blade.

Correct first SDA used a same input as the RTA12. The RTA 12 used it to connect top section to lower.

Very slim to none odds to getting an original cable. I'd start looking at the speakon connection we SDA folks have been using.

It's original SDA1 with front port holes.

I have never seen them before.

  • These speakers may be from their original or very early days. They still sound great but want all drivers working.

Be very careful wiring that cable if you make one. If I remember right the wires don't go like the other pin/blade cables. I think they switch in the cable itself instead of inside the cabinet. I almost lost a Adcom 555 wiring it wrong.

Wire it just like the cabinet wiring. the wiring DOES switch pins inside cabinet. MAKE the cable positive to positive and negative to negative and do the switch at the speaker end. TAKE PICTURES of the wire placement BEFORE YOU EVER TAKE ANYTHING APART.

pitdogg2, thanks for your input on this (I have the same very early SDA 1 and would also like to connect them), but I did not quite understand your wiring instructions. Are you saying that the left pin on the left speaker interconnect does or does not have continuity with the left pin on the right speaker interconnect?

Open it up and look. If the large blade on the speaker end is white the small blade on the right speaker should be white

Thanks pitdogg2, it is about time that I took a peak inside the cabinets. I had been on this track (https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/63792/questions-about-sda-1-speakers) and found seemingly compatible plugs and connectors, but they also left the polarity issue unresolved and I didn't know which route to pursue.

    Fixed it

I would think the pins are wired the same. I've never dealt with them.

Now wires of course could be a different color than white but hopefully you understand.

The nice folks at Polk support said that I just need a basic 3 pin XLR cable (1 of the pins is not needed) to connect these first generation (pin/pin) SDA 1 speakers. Thus, I ordered a Male-Female XLR cable and an adapter plug that has 2 female ends. Hopefully this will be $20 well spent and I can finally experience what SDA is all about. I hope to post results when the cable and adapter arrive.

Neutrik SpeakOn connectors would have cost even less and are vastly superior in every way.

Thank you F1nut, I appreciate the feedback. I will look into the SpeakOn connectors for round 2 of my exploration into getting everything I can out of these great speakers. Hopefully the XLR cable will provide a first taste of the SDA and I will go from there.

@nanook52 , i recognize this post is 2+ years old now.

Did an XLR or SpeakOn cable resolve the issue for you?

I am looking at the pair of Polk SDA 1 speakers having the same interconnect cable jacks (2 pin) as pictured at the beginning of this post. As is common, the cable is missing at this time.

    Cheers.

Air tight SpeakOn sockets work beautifully.
