Hooking up an SVS 20-39 PC+

I'm currently saving up for an SVS 20-39+, and I'm wondering which is the best way to hook it up. I have an Onkyo 701, which I don't plan on getting rid of soon. I've called Onkyo, and their subwoofer preout is unfiltered, so would I get decent performance hooking it up to the preout on the reciever? Since that is only one jack, which jack should I connect it to on the sub, seeming as how it has L/R inputs? I don't want to hook up the mains (RTi 10) to the sub, as 525 watts is too much juice for them. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Current System:

B&K AVR 507

You can hook the LFE cable to either or both inputs on the sub. Then use the crossover on the sub to blend with the mains.

No matter what you do, the sub amp only powers the sub.
Dont worry about hooking up the sub with the speaker level inputs. These just filter the frequencies from the receiver and pass the rest on to the speakers. The sub amp will not be powering the speakers and the receiver will not be powering the sub.

I have a 20 39+ and an Onkyo TX797 So the set up is similar to yours. I use The SVS Filter set at 80 and use line level input with a "Y" connector. as far as the other parameters the best thing to do is get a "Set up" disc and a "Radio Shack" SPL Meter and follow the Instructions on the disc. You will be amazed at the levels you can hit with the SVS. What Mains and Surrounds are you using? what ever the case is you are about to enter a new realm in Music and HT with the SVS......enjoy......
    Reciever - Onkyo TX 797 (100X6)
    Mains - RTi8's (Bi-Wire)

    Surrounds - FXi5's
    Subwoofer - SVS 20-39+
    Moniter - Sony KP-57HW40

    DVD #2 - Panasonic - DVD CP72
    CD - Sony - CDP-CX450 (400 Disc)
    Sat - Sony SAT - W60 (DirecTv)
    VHS - Sony - SLV-N88

I'm with Gate in saying that the subs amp has nothing to do with the power being applied to the speakers. You will be using the subs X-over to remove the lower signals and the remaining will be passed on to the speakers.

My system is at the bottom of my posts. As for the words of encouragement, thanks, but it will still be awhile until I can upgrade. $800 is a lot of money for me right now. Regarding the Y connector you spoke of, is that a split cable that goes from the end of the subwoofer cable to both L and R on the sub? Does it really matter if it is hooked up to just one or both?

I have read that the only difference between one cable and the y splitter is a 3 dB signal gain. That is no big difference. Your right $800 is a lot of money.

I can't hear the differance between the "Y" splitter and connecting to either L or R the reason being I belive is that all the low frequency signals are coming out of your "Onkyo" as 1 output But I could be wrong. So if someone out there knows better please correct me

Better Cables actually sells a bi-wired sub cable (actually pretty cheap given their other a/v cables) for just the purpose of connecting to both L/R from a single preout. They say that some subs function better that way.
