I thought it was a pretty good movie. I had some quirks with it, mostly with the casting, some of the acting, and the musical score. I like Brian Cox, I think he's a good actor, I just didn't think he was right for the role of Agamemnon. I just couldn't get over the feeling that this was Stryker from X Men 2. I just couldn't take him very seriously in this film. And the acting. Some of it just seemed a little wooden to me, not all of it, just some. But the thing that bothered me the most was the score. I mean , come on. James Horner just seems to used bits and pieces of music from previous scores, and the parts that were original weren't very memorable. Most of the suspenseful stuff was rehashed from "The Perfect Storm". But anyways. Everything else was pretty good, I thought. It was much better than most of the stuff that comes out these days. And< I'll mostly likely be buying the DVD.

I was once a real fan of James Horner's scores, the earlier stuff like Wrath of Khan, Aliens, Willow, he did some great work. I agree, though, that his last few scores have really seemed to pilfer from his own previous works. To his credit, though, the studio rejected the first composer's score for Troy (I'm thinking it was Gabriel Yared), and then asked Horner to come on 5 or 6 weeks before the release date. It's not terrible, but not memorable either. As for the film, my previous post conveyed the fact that I thought it was pretty good but not great, however the Trojan Horse scene just seemed to come and go without much impact, which was a let down.

I liked it. Its good to see a few new fighting moves that haven't been in other movies.

    I'll give it a 9/10.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Maybe we're not meant to this movie 100% seriously. It's a good film, and I never was bored in the 2 and a half hour running time, which is always a good thing. I may even go see this again with the misses. Take care everyone.

I was pleasantly surprised by troy, I went there expecting to hate it as I've read the Iliad and had heard all the slatings it got for not being completely loyal to it, however I have to say by the end of the film I was right into it, especially the achiles/hector fight.

I guess there are a few problems with it, personally I'd love to have had the gods playing as big a part as they did in the original myth, the gods were always the most interesting characters for me (they're immortal and so have different motivations etc), and I don't like the idea of sean bean as odysseus, but all in all it was a really good effort and really entertaining.
