Here is my pioneer SX-780 and HR-99 8-track player, thanks to George Grand for the 8-track, waiting for their Elac Debut B5.2 speakers.

I had one of those Pioneer receivers as a teen with Acoustic Research speakers. Loved that setup, though I didn't know any better. It was better than anything anyone else had I went to school with.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

both very cool -- the eight-track is extra cool... and taken to the level of über-cool by the George Grand (of the Jersey Grands) connection!
-
I don’t think the 8-track has ever been used. The protective plastic is still on the loading door. One day, it will be passed on to another polkie.

That's a better than average eight-track deck. I realize this is sort of like saying "that's a better than average Yugo" but it's true nonetheless. There was a smattering of decent-quality eight-track decks; and if one bought good tape and recorded one's own eight-tracks, the quality could be fairly decent.
Honest.

Yep. God bless George, he hooked me up. He found out I was doing a 70’s themed man cave, and he sent it to me for FREE. Kind soul. He did ask that if I ever got rid of it, that it go to a Polkie, and I gave him my word that it would.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Very nice Steve. Will you be putting video link here ? I'd love to see it, if so. Always enjoyed the vintage Pioneer. That tape deck is gorgeous & from George ... Verb I remember them back in the day hanging under the dashboard of many vehicles & speaker boxes on the shelf "like area" behind the R&L seats. Your a car guy. What is that area called ? Rear dash ? Memories..

Speaking of Nova's. Remember Jungle Jim and Jungle Pam of Drag Racing match race circuits in the early 1970's? Before NHRA messed it all up.

I had a 74 Nova hatchback with a smallblock and a pioneer cassette supertuner. Loved that car even though it was terrible in the snow and handled like crap. Sadly I somehow managed to tip it over and destroy it during my misspent youth,

Lol! I completely restored the car. Short lived as it was. My first and only paint job, bondo, you name it. Slotted aluminum mags, BF Goodrich radials, shackles on the leaf springs, gosh that thing was a rust bucket. Re-built the straight 6, put the shifter on the floor, bucket seats from an older Firebird. But the best was replacing the rubber floor with jade green shag carpet! Yeah baby!
And then in college the engine compartment caught fire! Cheap arse rubber fuel line that I used got loose! And that was the end of it for me. Sold it to a buddy back home.
Ah, memories!
Thought about doing another Nova, maybe someday. I do have a 'blackout' dial Pioneer, come to think of it (and FWIW)...
