I recently picked up a pair of 707s, a pair of 703s, and a 706 from the Adorama blowout, and now I'm trying to decide between the two above mentioned ceiling speakers for a small room 5.1.2 atmos setup.

If you have the depth, I would definitely do the 700’s. Great looking speaker and timber matched (not that that necessarily matters for a atmos height speaker).

  • I'm sort of leaning towards the 700's. Depth shouldn't be a problem in the attic. Anyone have either of these?

I have them both - 700s pulling rear surround duty and the 80F/X L&R surrounds. Both do their job well, but the 700s, being more cost effective would be my choice for Atmos. Not sure how the dual tweeters in the F/X’s would do as heights.

Yeah that is the crux of the question. I'm not experienced with Atmos, so I guess the question is, what is preferred, precision or diffusion for height speakers?

Precision. Atmos does NOT recommend dipole speakers but rather direct radiating. Look at Dolby’s site...
