rti 150's WHAT HAPPENED?

Listening to some AC-DC tonight. Got a Harman Kardon avr 520 and PolkAudio rti 150's my tweeter in one speaker is now not working...WHAT? please help if you had a tweeter problem with these huge 500 watt speakers!!:confused:

    One usually blows tweeters by playing at high volume with little headroom so ...

    Maybe ...

    High Volume with Low Current = Distortion = bye bye tweeter ...

    Or maybe there's just a loose connection.

    Sounds like you might have clipped the amp. Were you jammin' pretty loud? What's the output/rms of your HK? The number 1 cause of blown tweeters is an underrated amp pushed beyond its "usbale" power limits.

    First thing, that AVR 520 is a nice receiver, but you're going to need more than just that to power those beasts. I believe that one has preamp outputs, so just grab a second amp to put on the bottom of those 150s, you can still use the receiver to power the highs. The HK PA2000 is a nice amp and will deliver 100 WPC to the lows, this will help you tremendously...

    I'll leave suggestions on the tweeter to others, but you may just have a loose connection inside, have you moved the speaker recently?

    Thanks all for the help:Getting the tweeter replaced...should be torqing in a few weeks. The stereo mode for Harman Kardon avr 520 reciever has 85 watts RMS per side along with the Polkaudio rti 150's and two Velodyne CHT 12's...very happy with the audio. Just tought maybe there was a tweeter weakness in the rti's. The satellite audio must of not been the best...and a few rye's along with it...he-he!! :cool:
