As long as the receiver has preamp outputs you should be fine. If it's the AVR 5800, then it has preamp outputs. Obviously you'll still need a second amp with which to bi amp your front speakers...bi-wiring is a different beast altogether...

oops i mis represented i meant bi wire the speakers not by amp where i have seperate speaker wires running to the hi and lows of my speakers. i had this on my older denon 5600 receiver and it sounded great the only problem is someone else set it up for me a few yrs ago and i cant remember how it was wired. thanks again.

you can bi-wire to if Im not wrong any receiver...you may choose to just change the jumpers and use only 1 cable say 12awg and use the same for your jumpers
-
You can bi-wire off of any amplifier. DO NOT run scenario A below as well as having the jumpers in place if you're going to truly bi-wire though. To clarify, you can either:
a) run 2 full cable runs tied together at the amp end and then attach to the seperate binding posts, or
b) run a single cable from the amplifier to the bottom (or top) binding posts, and then in place of the metal jumper, replace with a short cable of the same gauge as your longer run
Some think that A is much better than B, but try B first if for nothing other than a cost savings option and see if that sounds better than what you currently are using.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
B is much cheaper and you dont have to wire manage

if i have unused speaker outputs on the receiver can i bi amp my highs and lows from unused outputs or will i damage the amp or speakers that way sort of a biamp sinario?

If you just try to hook it up , that won't work. What signal is your receiver sending to those unused jacks? If it's surround or a multizone, think about what you're going to be getting out of that part of the speaker you're bi-amping.
Some receivers have the capability to manage those inputs and allow you to dedicate a source signal to a certain input. So you could tell your receiver to send the signal from the front channels to this extra set of channels, and then bi-amp your fronts using those channels...I don't know the specifics of the receiver you have, you'd have to check with the manual or with Denon...given the nature of the Denon manuals, it may be easiest just to contact Denon... -
for bi-amping don't you need 2 amps ??? are you talking about bi-wiring ??

Hey Y'all
I have a Yamaha RX-V1400, and I was wonderin' if I can bi-amp. Since I have 'A' and 'B' front speaker outputs, couldn't I just run wires from both the 'A' outputs and the 'B' outputs to the separate connectors on the back of my speakers?
I apologize for my lack of knowledge of terms; 'output' and 'connectors' will get the point across.
Thanks,

A - your receiver cannot drive both A and B channels simultaneously, so the answer is no
B - your receiver can drive A and B simultaneously, but will 'split' the power between the two channels, giving each channel only 1/2 power, so the answer could be yes, but it would be pointless, so really no
C - your receiver can drive A and B simultaneously and give full power to eacfh channel. I have yet to see a receiver that will do this, but it's not inconceivable.
Hope that helps, you just need to find out which scenario applies to your receiver... -
Thanks for the info. I've powered both 'A' and 'B' simultaneously, so it will power them both. If it splits the power like you said it might, won't it be quiter? So, I could listen to something through just 'A' and then turn on 'B'; if it's quiter then it's splitting the power, if it's just as loud it's not. Does that make sense?
Thanks,

I think the only way to know for sure is to contact Yamaha and see what they say...or maybe someone here will jump in. That's a ncie receiver, but I have doubts about it driving both A and B at the sme time with full power to each, at least when it's driving all the other chanels also... -
Thanks for the help. I'm not actually going to do it right now, but I was just wonderin' for the future. I'll check with the manual and see what it says, but I'm not really in a hurry to do it; especially since I don't have any speakers with two sets of posts, yet!!
Thanks for the info, though.
