I'm letting the speakers breath without their covers tonight, spinning some Steven Wilson right now...
(Before anyone mentions it, yes, I know they are too close to the side walls. Sometimes you just have to make due with the rooms are you dealt. My next house will have to accommodate these much better! The inner pair are for my dedicated 2-channel setup though, and they actually image and throw their SDA sounds quite nicely...).
Suggestions on what to play next?

Why not double duty the inner pair for that room and put the other pair somewhere else?
-
Good idea, FestYboy. That will probably happen once construction in my basement is finished... someday... and then that will most likely be my dedicated 2-channel area, where I can crank it and not disturb the natives. haha

Yes. That setup is not conducive to good sound.
I know... too small of a room, too narrow, too cramped, you name it. At least the vaulted ceilings allow the sound to breath. But it's what I've got for the time being while I'm finishing the basement (mistake #1!, I should have hired it out and just got it done...) Although, like I said, I think the inner/2-channel pair sound surprising good for being less than optimal. -
All good my man! It's a journey after all. You know the end game, it's just a matter of time before you get there! I guess I could sideline the tube setup momentarily and just run off the receiver for my 2-channel needs, but man, the tubes sound great! That little Dared SL2000A was a great bang-for-the-buck purchase. Rolled with the right tubes, it sounds great.
I hate to see the tubes go out of service. Maybe I could move the tubes to be a kitchen rig or something. haha I'd be cooking all the time! -
I always wanted one of those Dared pre's such good stuff.

Get one! They're not expensive at all, and the pre responds really well to tube rolling. The expensive part is all the tubes you are going to be buying. haha I think I have some Mullards in there right now. One of these days I'll spring for some long-plate Telefunkens... -
I have a Dared too.

Yea right used are rare as hens teeth and new has not been made in years. I looked for over a year. That is the mark of good gear folks hold them. I have a search now for over two years on eBay and zip... -
There's one of mine on Amazon right now for almost $3k. lol

Nice, Nightfall! After hearing mine, I wanted to try some of the more expensive models, but never got around to it. I'm sure that one is sweet!
I didn't know they weren't being made anymore. Dang. But you're right, that is the sign of good gear when you can't find it on the second hand market, pitdogg2.
