RTA 11T sound damping material

Hi,

The sound damping material in my RTA 11T is wrapped around the top of each MW in an upside-down U shape. See sketch and picture.

I'm not the original owner but it doesn't seem they were opened or modified before.

Is this the correct placement of the material for this model? The reason I'm asking is that other posts generally describe the placement as around the back of the MW rather than around its top.
Thanks,

The damping material in my RTA-11TL's had fallen out of place. This is how Polk customer service and the designer said it should be placed, above and behind each mid-woofer.

I've never seen an RTA speaker packed like that.

Only difference between the two 11t and 11tl is the tweeter. Everything else will be the same.

I think there were some other differences between the T and the TL. I believe the PR's are tuned a little differently and obviously the crossovers given the different tweeters, but the TL also got rid of the polyswitch. The TL added the spoiler between the tweeter and upper mid-woofer to allow the tweeter sound to project more upward. I think the rest was cosmetic.

As far as the placement of the Daycron material, I can't really say. Zvonko, who had voiced the RTA11TL told me to place it like I pictured. I'm not sure if he had changed it from the T or not. I could ask him the next time I see him. I suspect the U shape is how it was originally placed for the T. It looks like it naturally closes in behind the MW's anyway.

In my modifications, I put Sonic Barrier behind the MW's and the Daycron above each MW. Nothing behind the PR's. I really like the depth, cleanliness and tightness of the bass. My LSi15's don't compare in this area.

While you have the drivers out, add some Dynamat (or similar) material to the metal baskets of the MW's and PR's to keep them from ringing.
