I have a couple of old SACDmods modded sony players that the laser assembly has given up the ghost....or so it would seem.
Anyone ever tackled this job? I've got F1's hotrod Jolida CD playa so I'm not short on great digital......but if this is a pop the lid/plug and play thing. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl.
Thoughts??

It depends on the Sony model. The higher end, later ES models require a program/calibration disc, which only authorized repair shops have access to.Political Correctness'.........defined

I did the laser pickup in my Denon DVD-2910. If I recall properly, it is a Sony pickup. Aligning was a little tricky but not bad.Stan

Strange because my 3910 used a 10.00 hitachi laser as did my 2900. From my experience all the Denons used the cheapest hitachi laser on the market. I gave my son my first Sony ES player I bought new soon after it came out. It was a 508es and had literally tens of thousands of hours on it I'm sure and to this day is still used daily.
I know that the Sony 9000es actually used a laser out of one of their cheapest players. IIRC it was the DVP-S350 and its bigger brother DVP-S530. It's the reason the 9000 had such problems with the dreaded C13 error code. The 9000 would self align by putting each of a dvd, sacd and cd by getting into the service mode and selecting the correct prompt. It actually was pretty sophisticated. But jeeesh it really got old taking the thing apart. I bought every 350/530 player i could find since they were about 15/20$ at the time. I just gave up on the 9000 after my 3rd one that supposedly never ever had any problems whatsoever each and every one of them had a ton of problems. When they play they played well when they didn't well they didn't plain and simple.
Which sacd player do you have Troy? -
Maybe it was Hitachi but I thought it was Sony.
My old Denon DCD-660 from 1990 is still going strong. It is fairly low end Denon but can play some pretty beat up CD's.
I also have a Sony CDP 650esD that is built like a tank and sounds excellent (in my opinion).Stan
