Looking for the best way to maximize my new PSW202. Is there a standard procedure to get the most out of a sub?

    First, welcome to the forum. To get the best performance out of your PSW202 is to first get yourself a setup disc, DVE, AVIA etc. and a SPL meter. To help us Polkies out a little, how about giving us a list of your current components, room size, etc.

    Room is about 10x20 with openings at each corner, 8' ceilings, floor to ceiling brick fireplace center of one long wall, hardwood floors, AV system placed on one short wall, Bose Acoustimass 6 series II, Polk PSW202, Pioneer VSX-D509S AV receiver, Panasonic DVD-CV36.

    Edit - I have a Sound and Vision setup disc, but not a sound meter.

    2nd Edit - What cable is best to hook up my sub? Brands, type? rca to rca or rca to split?

    Most often the strongest room reinforcement will occur in corners or at least along walls.

    One of the easiest ways to optimize your sub placement is to place it at your primary listening position and then crawl around to the various spots in the room where you are considering placing it.

    Radio Shack sells SPL meters, cheap. Their digital model is about $40. Very good tool to have...

    Tour sub gives the option of LFE in (RCA plugs) or speaker level in (then out to your main speakers). I suggest using some thick speaker wire between your receiver and sub, then to the Bose. Set your mains to LARGE and subwoofer to NO. You should probably crank the crossover on the 202 to about 3/4ths the way.

    like Tour mentioned above. placing your sub in the corner usually along the longest wall will give you the maximum sound from your sub. Usually the first place your try your sub is not always the best place. it's a hassle.. but it's worth moving it around the room to several different corners.

    then sit in your favorite easy chair and play some music or a DVD and see how it sounds. then move it to another corner. and so forth. still you find the placement that sounds the best to you.
