Nostalgia - sometimes you just can’t go back.

I bought a Klipsch SW12 in the early 90’s from Ultimate Electronics. It was my first subwoofer, and man - it changed my life. I’ve had many subs over the years, and it makes me realize just how much subwoofer tech has advanced, in a relatively short time.
The reason I bring this up, is that I came across an ad for a Klipsch SW10 (The same sub, albeit the 10” version) in my local classifieds this evening. While I admit to being momentarily tempted to purchase it out of nostalgia, I quickly came to my senses and realized that this sub has no place in any system I would assemble now. The puniest sub in my current inventory (Klipsch RSW 10D) would destroy the SW10 in every way. Class D amplifier technology, driver technology, DSP, and many more innovations have left almost all (I know, there are exceptions) 25+ year old subs in the dust.
That’s when I realized that sometimes, fond memories are enough. Anyone else have fond memories of a “game changing” (at the time) piece of gear that, as much as you loved it then, you really have no desire to own now?

I have that sub still or the 12" version. I forgot I had it for a few years.
My first powered sub was a JBL PSW1200. I sold it, bought another one. years later, sold it. I then saw a PSW1000 or another 1200 and went to buy it. But it didn't work so I passed. Even at 20.00....I passed. It was kind-of hard to leave it but the "been there done that" like you said, set in easily.
I agree!, my first powered JBL sub showed me what I had been missing!
I eventually moved up to Klipsch's but I've had many manufacturer's come through here. I had about 14 subs at one time and sold a bunch of them many years back. I still have 10+ powered subs but no SVS or HSU ones. I've had, and still do own some great subs as far as "I know".
I've said here many times, watching TV movies and even well produced series is SOOO much better when I turn the surround system on and the sub clicks on!
That's mainly my living room "Pinnacle Black Diamond" system with a cheap Pinnacle 12" sub. I have 2 -12" pinnacles and tried 2 but I didn't hear much of difference so I took the second one out. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Well sometimes you just gotta have that thing for only one reason, nostalgia. Brings me back to the day, when ignorance was bliss, but bliss nonetheless! Ah, memories!
My first "real" system, purchased in my teens! Long gone now, but at times I wish I still had it! If anything just so I could look at it while on the shelf!

I had two of the Sony 400 CD capacity Mega Disc CD changers. Took forever to load those things up and write in simple text for CD names. They were innovative for back then. But they did not really sound all that good and they were quite large. I don’t even remember what I did with them now.

My Pioneer CS-A700 speakers I bought around 73 or 74. I loved the way they looked and sounded, even if they did eventually become garage speakers. I had them until I did a whole house purge a couple of years ago.

I miss my Super Towers every once in a blue moon but I doubt Ill ever go back to that lol
Its funny because this is actually MY set of towers, one of the later owners modded the crossovers even further...

I had a pair of Design Acoustics (either PS-10 or PS-8). I gave $40 for them when Highland Superstores closed down in '93. I'm sure if I heard a pair today I would be extremely disappointed, but I've often thought of grabbing a pair off of e-bay just to give them one more listen.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden
