New Desktop Computer

My old Dell was starting to make noises so I decided to purchase a new desktop computer. I have an HP Slice in my stereo rig that runs my roon core as well and needed one that I could use for dual purpose home/work computer.

I bought an Intel NUC i7 quad core with 8GB, 250GB SSD, and added a WD 500GB M.2 SSD Intel Iris Graphics 650, Win 10 Pro. Multiple USB's and USB C ports, Thunderbolt 3, built in dual microphones (for conference calls and Skype stuff).

All in for about $750

It is very compact (app 4x4x2). I still have 1 remaining mem slot and 1 remaining M.2 slot. It also came with a vesa mount where you can mount it on the back of your display. Very well layed out and is 10x faster than my old Dell. I would leave the old Dell turned on in awake mode b/c the time it took to recover from sleep mode was just exhausting when you needed it to wake up. With SSD booting and coming out of sleep is like 10 seconds. Overall very quiet and a blazing fast little powerhouse computer that aesthetically doesn't take up half of your desk.



Been getting it tuned up for the last couple of days and it will be a "google free" computer.

Yep, these are cool little PCs. Picked up a NUC7i5BNH last year mainly to toy around with Linux. I have it connected to my AVR. Pretty amazing how snappy it is!

The ultra wides are cool... I have an LG 34" ultra wide and I like not having 2 displays on my desk. You sure get a lot of LCD display for your money these days.

I have on of those Nunc but the more basic one with the Celeron cpu but works great as a music and Plex server.

Also recently upgraded my PC, well mostly build a new one. Got a 32" Samsung curve monitor with a 144hz refresh rate. Awesome for gaming but still have the two old 27's"

They all do great when working.

Pretty amazing what they can cram into a tiny case these days. I still remember my first pc with its whopping 6gb HD. Which at the time seemed absurdly large. That HD was nearly as big as this entire case.

I remember PC/XT class machines with 5 MB drives... you wouldn't want to drop one of those on your foot...
