I bought two Hitmasters when they were on sale at Walmart for $20 each. Really amazing little self contained speakers. I gave one to my son and the other has been my companion with a bluetooth receiver stuck to the side. Recently the sound quality took a dump. I opened it up to find one of the small caps had gone bad burning up a bit of the circuit board in the process. I fear its a goner. I could probably rebuild that part of the board but feel I should cut my losses and find a replacement.

I just feel sad.

The issue of the heat generated by active components in powered loudspeakers self-immolating is an old one -- and a pervasive one.

Better $20 speakers than $2000 ones (lookin' at you KEF) ;)

Yup, gonna stick it on the ultra low priority project shelf. Maybe after I have found a replacement and am satisfied, I will send it on to dead speaker heaven. Bought them January 2011. Got a good 8 years out of this one and the other is used daily by my Son. Can't complain. Just hate it when something you use often gives up.

Love my Hitmaster. Use it all the time for yard work, camping etc. Still running strong (knock on wood)

There are some surface mount capacitors on the back side that look charred. It looks a bit more that just a cap swap.

So I had to look it up! Looks cool! 20 bucks? Sounds like a deal! At that price, no harm in trying to fix it, IMO!
