A-bus??

Hello all,

I've been monitoring this forum for over a year off and on at work but I finnally have a question. Has anyone here used A-BUS for multi-room audio? If so what did you think of the quality? Ease of installation? Any other comments?

I want to put in a multi-room audio link to my kitchen, but the wife is limiting the budget so using the pre-outs to a seperate amp may not work for what I want to achieve. Also since it is a new home (it wasn't built in because we bought a show home) she doesn't want me to start ripping out drywall and making a mess.

I'm not familiar with the A-Bus, but I'm sure Radio Shack would have some sort of multi-room solution, on the cheap. Try Parts Express as well, they have alot of custom installation stuff that might fit the bill.

Oh yeah, I forgot too add this.

I'm looking at either a A-bus amp from russound (sp?) or HK. Don't know that it matters that much for the application but more info is better. Speaking of which I will be running a HK AVR430 receiver and polk in wall (or ceiling) speakers.

I hadn't really considered that. I heard long time ago about problems with signal loss and distortion. I imagine this stuff is getting better though. I still like the look of wall plate with IR capabilities though but this does bear some more research.

Yeah,

The project is now on hold though. Looks like I might be moving. Find out on Monday. Oh, well the next house will be something that needs just enough work to justify redoing the wiring and installing a proper multi-room set-up.

Oh, and just 'cause I'm lazy today.........
Any good places for me to start researching wi-fi? Other than a google search for wi-fi that is.

Wired magazine has been printing a lot of articals about wi-fi. Because of the very high data rate of wi-fi, you can utilize this technology to "broadcast" audiophile (high resolution) quality AUDIO AND VIDEO through out your home, computer and other telecommunications information as well any other digital data that needs to be distributed to various parts of your home. The range is excellent, with no data loss even at 2,000 feet. The neat part is the file sharing capabiities. You can create a file in one domain (compter for example) and share it witl other domains (your home theatre for example). And it is an open system that your neighbors can access if you want them to. You can create mp3 files and broadcast them to the neighborhood. You can take videos of a vacation or party or whatever, and broadcast that to your dvd-r or vcr or a bedroom television or whatever. The possibities of wi-fi seem endless.

The home entertainment magazine SOUND & VISION also has run some great articles detailing wi-fi, and almost every month they review great wi-fi products like dvd players, servers, recievers and even wi-fi capable speakers. A couple months ago SOUND & VISION ran an article listing the 10 most important developments for home entertainment, and wi-fi ranked 3rd, right behind the dvd and HDTV. Of course wi-fi is capable of transmitting HDTV quality images from 1 room to another room, so that adds value to the idea.
