SVS setup continues...

If I've learned one thing about subs, it's that you have to have patience with the set-up to reach "audio-nervana."
Over the last 2 weeks I've further adjusted the level of my 25-31PC Plus, dropping it a full increment. Certain CD's were displaying some muddiness/congestion in the upper bass region. I think I just about have it dialed in, but it goes to show you that getting it right takes the proper tools and time. I always test the sound right after work, because I've been away from music all day and it makes it easier to hear when something is not quite right. Evanescence, Creed and Linkin Park CD's were best for getting the level correct, as they display alot of mid/upper bass that can get very congested if not level-matched correctly to the sub. For those of you integrating an SVS with near full range towers, these might help get you in the ballpark (music being the priority):
XO: 50Hz
Filter: 25Hz
Ports: all open
Level: 2.5 (increments)
Phase: 0

I thought so too, but the bass was real "plummy" at that setting. 50Hz seemed to smooth it right out. That setting also got rid of a spike at 30Hz that was occuring with the 45Hz setting, which would explain the lumpy bass.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Noticed on the PB2 after 2 weeks the sound went from harsh to
a much mellower/warmer sound. I din't think about "burn in" in a sub.Front: LSI7

imho once a sub is broken in and assuming the settings are correct in terms of producing the flatest curve possible I believe gain still needs to be adjusted based on what one is listening to i.e. HT vs. music and even sometimes depending on type of music. The SRT subs although maybe not quite as good as the SVS's have an edge here in terms of being able to have different settings for HT and music and a remote control that allows switching between the two modes and customization of both from the remote.
