in Speakers
Hi everyone, new member. I posting this question here because I have asked in other forums and people just say I should try this speaker or that speaker and never really answer the question. So here it goes, I am thinking of using 5 or possibly 7 Lsim703 speakers for my bed layer in my atmos setup. I will be driving them with a Marantz SR7011. My speakers that I am replacing are Boston Acoustics VR30 mains, VR12 center and CR8 lf/rt surrounds. Bass will be provided by 4 Paradigm Sub 15’s Hoping these will be a good upgrade from my old speakers, has anyone used these all around? What’s everyone’s thoughts. Thanks

I'm familiar with the speakers, but have not used them "all around." However, in the right space, I think such a configuration could sound incredible. 5.2(split to 4).4 would be my initial recommendation for Atmos. You could add a small amp to get it to 7.2(4).4. Just don't tell us your room is 8x10... A system like this needs adequate space!
Also, with whatever speaker configuration you choose, you'll likely be maxing out every channel of that AVR, so offloading some or all of the 703s to external amplification should probably factor into your plans. -
I have the same receiver. As mentioned, you would benefit from getting a separate amplifier. With mine, I just have a two channel amp on the front stereo speakers which are the 707s.
Out of all the speakers I have owned, the LSiM 703s "wake up" more with a 200
+ watt amp than any other. They are ok with a receiver's output, but that is not taking advantage of what the speakers are capable of. Those speakers can rock in the right setup. -
The room is 17x26x9, I’m going to drive the L,R speakers with my marantz MM7025, hopping to buy a Emotiva or Monolith 7 channel in the future. I have 4 Polk audio SC60 for atmos speakers I got from Best Buy cheap.

The 703's are a cool speaker for the application. As others have said, they could work off your receiver however by the time you get all the channels loaded a 3-7 channel amp would not be a bad idea at all. I enjoyed mine mated with the 706 center I had for a short while.
Another great option for a high output HT, in the same price range, with about a 6 dB higher sensitivity, and are very detailed are the HSU CCB-8. Coming from the detailed mids, and Lynnfield tweeter in your Boston's, you might really dig the HSU's for home theater.
I currently run Bostons myself, the VR965 & VR920 for HT and I enjoy the upper end detail. I'm considering trying out the HSU in my own room at some point.

I would imagine you'd have a very nice setup with 5 LSiM 703. I had 703's, with a 706C, and 702 surrounds an it was very nice. Are you able to buy a single 703? If not I might suggest a 706C for the center. BUT, for all I know you can get a set of 703's for the same price as a 706C.
Anyway, I loved my 703's and I think you'd have a great system. As @Emlyn mentioned, the 703 really wake up with more power. They can be very nice on an AVR, but they can be a special bookie when powered to their full potential.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
The 703’s are only sold individually, I can buy two 703’s for the cost of the cheapest 706 (Amazon), but I think it’s shipped from over seas. The 706 is hard to find in Canada and range in price from $900-2000, not cheap. I don’t listen at reference level anymore. So power amps might have to wait a bit on funding (I have four boys in sports). Do you think $2200 for five 703’s to much?

Those HSU are not easy to find in Canada, if I purchased from the US they would be well over $3000 for 5.

I have a 703 for my center channel and 705s for the left and right all with tweeters at the same heights and it sounds great. Three 703s up front (plus in the back) should be fine. I am using 800 WPC and agree that they like, and can handle lots of power, not that it is needed very often.SONY VPL-VW385ES, Da-Lite 92" 0.9 HD progressive 16x9 screen, Apple TV 4K, Oppo UDP 203, Anthem AVM 60, D-Sonic 4000 (800x3, 400x4) for bed layer, 2 Crown XLS 1002 (225x4) for Atmos; Speakers: Polk LSiM 705s, 703 front, 4 702F/X surround, 4 Polk TL3 (Atmos), Velodyne DD15 Subwoofer.
