my Pioneer 9500II tuner arrived yesterday. it's vintage classic way overbuilt Pioneer.
this sucker is heavy.. about 20lbs. weighs nearly as much as the amp in the picture.
I had my doubts a vintage analog tuner would sound very good. Boy was I way off base. It's true... analog tuners DO indeed sound damn good.
I read somewhere that this tuner was once Pionners top of the line. I can see why.. it sounds very very close to CD quality. I've heard things from FM radio i've never heard before.
Right now i'm listening to Dream On by Aerosmith.. OMG! does it sound good... just from FM over the air radio.
FYI, i've been putting together a 2ch vintage rig for my computer.
Gear so far.... Yamaha CA-610II integrated amp
Pioneer TX-9500II tuner
Signal Cable 2 with bullets
Polk Monitor 7b's
I'd like to add a nice turntable down the road. any ideas on which one guys??
I was trying to do this for under $500
so far i'm up to $444, thats with shipping costs. that leaves $56 for a turntable

Awesome. Vintage gear are so sexy. Those would be fun to work on. You can change the RCA's to gold plated.

mikejz84 got the Pioneer SX-950 4 sale on ebay, at 53 bucks right now. Looks similar except for the wood.

I just de-installed a Pioneer combo that I was using at my desk at work. A SA-9500 integrated amp and matching TX-9500 tuna. The tuna was rock solid, provided uninterrupted programming all day long. My desk is in a real **** location. If nothing else, all the negative work "waves" are present, possibly trying to interfere with the positive musical waves being broadcast. This doesn't seem to hinder the TX-9500, nor does the fact that the air base is pretty much out in the north 40.
Two reasons to de-install.
1. Serious overkill for a desk stereo.
2. There are people who will pay a good portion of my daughters future college bill to own these two pieces. They're mint, wrapped up for shipment, and just waiting for the check to arrive. Yahoooo!
