I've read that alcohol and drugs weren't involved. What on earth would make that truck rip by Josh at that speed and plow into those stopped cars?

When i visited out there, like Josh stated there are many turn offs that go uphill onto the mountain. Many I seen went from heavy large gravel to small deep soft stone or sand to stop run away vehicles. Not a place I'd want to loose my brakes.

Usually when something goes wrong on semi truck brakes...they lock up!

Now if a coke bottle rolled under his brake pedal, that would be really bad BUT all big trucks also have emergency brake knobs on the dash you pull to lock brakes up when parked also. That would've locked all the brakes instantly.

I know some big rigs LOOSE their brakes SOMEHOW and go off onto those sandy ramp stops and some crash into mountain sides. I've seen a few of each on Black Mountain in Asheville NC. when I was traveling every week years ago. I use to have big rigs flying past me on those mountain roads. People in reg. vehicles speeding too. It was crazy and thoughtless on their part to put us at risk too. The state even reduced the speed limit for big rigs on those mountain highways during my travels back then. It was strictly enforced back then too. Too many truckers were crashing back then. Rookies or overconfident...or falling asleep too. Who knows when you can't ask the deceased driver and there's no witnesses to some of the crashes. Some crashes into the mountainsides were horrendous too. You could tell the driver didn't make it if the driver was in the cab when it hit.

I hope we find out what the driver was doing or not doing to his affect his trucks momentum.

    Dialing a phone # maybe?

Very sorry to hear 4 people lost their lives. At the end of the video it was stated only 2 injured.

Truck drivers can do some amazing things. This happened not too far away from us this week. Can someone explain how a truck driver can go down a highway at speed with the body up in the air?
Hmmm; why is there light coming through the back window? Why is the truck handling funny? Why is the pto making all that noise?

Agreed on that one. Many of them drive these rigs as if they were F1 cars.

There were some notes in that video's comments suggesting that this was a hilly area (Colorado, right?) and the guy's brakes had failed. Same as Ivan mentions above re: the runaway truck ramps. They have these emergency pull-offs spaced out in some areas to give the drivers somewhere to go in case of brake malfunction. Ramps up into soft sand, etc. But there has to be one and they have to be able to get to it.

Barring some psychotic breakdown, I'm thinking this guy had to have had a mechanical failure to be flying down traffic like that. Maybe he could've ditched some other way, and then again, maybe he was trying to find a runaway ramp, who knows. Didn't watch the whole video, though, and haven't read up anywhere else on this.

Terribly tragic, the loss of life. Other serious injuries as well, I imagine.

There is no doubt in my mind this is the same truck, I know the area very well, and the timing is right, not only that as he comes out of the foothills he could have put that truck in the medium, plenty of room and time to put that truck into the soil...

Wellt, there you go, yeah, if it was the same guy - too much of a coincidence not to be - he drove right past one of the runaway ramps and had easy access.

I can imagine those families would want some answers and accountability. Gotta wonder what was going on with that driver.

I drive that road at least once a week in average. I am glad you are ok. Its sad about the 4 people who lost their life in that accident. I always tell my wife about cars and some times even big rigs not really knowing how to drive in these roads. I see their brake lights constantly on all the time. My wife knows how to drive a manual car but I just keep reminding her to use lower gears in the automatic transmission cars to preserve the brakes for the emergencies in the downhills.
