Just received new Black PSW 10 # A1055N5386 It has strange smell. Maybe Moldy?

Hi Polk People. I have an older wood grain PSW10 that I use to supplement the low end in my music system in the living room. It has worked perfectly for years. Very happy with it. Recently I set up my 5.1 AV system and decided to get another PSW10 to use as the subwoofer for it. The new PSW10 is black. I bought it from Polk through Amazon and received it today. I noticed when I unwrapped the box that it had a strange / moldy smell to it. I set it up in the room it is going to live in. Each time I've gone in there today I've smelled the smell. I am not sure if there is something wrong, like mold? Or perhaps it's the smell of the stain used to color the wood black? Is this smell a condition you are aware of? Is it something that will dissapate with time, or do you think there is something wrong with this particular PSW10 and I should return it? Thanks Much, Mark.

Polk doesn't sell directly on Amazon, so who knows where it came from. That said, new electronics give off an odor at first, so maybe that's what you smell.

Wonder if you got a unit with some water damage from shipping? Just bought a 505 directly from Polk and zero smells from that thing.

A new powerstat adjustable transformer I bought off Amazon I use for ramping up equipment during rebuilds on the other hand stinks so bad it's banished to the garage unless I'm actually using it. A dolly/hand cart bought at Harbor Freight has the same smell coming from the wheels. So bad my wife can smell it the second she walks in the door and I've had that thing two years now.

That's the smell of the polluted Chinese air trapped in the cabinet. Run the sub hard for a bit to force it out & it'll all be good. ;)

May need an air exchange, common maintenance with speakers.
