heck, you want a mid-engined GM car -- you could just get a Fiero and pocket the difference.

There has been a push within the Corvette's engineering team to move the car to a mid-engine platform since at least 1959, and they actually placed the order for tooling to produce this car for the 1980 Corvette...
    492xexyjqi1g.jpg

Sadly, Bill Mitchell, Zora Dutov and Ed Cole retired before the ink dried on the contract and Dave McClellan killed it. There have been at least a dozen concepts and every generation since the C2 cars have had a mid-engine prototype in the mix.

I think Dodge is as much responsible for the switch being made as well as Ford... A true supercar has the engine behind the driver.. everything else is nothing more that a GT.

And 10-12 pages of posts over the next couple of months, leading up to the inevitable conclusion? Unless by some miracle the Finance Dept. (a/k/a The Mrs.)
gives it the official Okey-Dokey.... :*

Just having some early morning fun, I hope everything goes well with this one.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I never put a timeframe to this.... never buy a first year GM car, especially one they are twisting frames on because there is too much power hitting the ground. :s

"We" were supposed to get a mid-engined Corvette in the early-mid 1970s! Mid-engined-ness is exotic and high-end sort of by definition (well, at least in those days, it was); sort of the direct-heated triode of sports cars B)

I once had a 1967 Fiat 850 Spider covered headlight with a rear-engine Autobianchi motor. Add that to the "exotic" list. Not mid-engine, rear engine. All 1050 DOHC cc's of it. It became popular with California guys to put Mazda rotary engines in them and they could lift the front end right off the ground burning out. Definition of a "pocket rocket." Lol

That is exactly what my covered headlight Spider looked like, racing red was the color. I think they went to raised headlights in '68. Total POS stock motor, unless you put an Abarth, Autobianchi, or Mazda rotary engine in them. Guys in California were into modding them like we mod Polk SDA's, you wouldn't believe the ingenuity those guys had - hogging out the venturi's, modding the cams, etc etc. I believe '67 WAS before the change in regs, including emission controls in California, but I could be wrong. I drove that Spider back from San Diego to Wisconsin alone, which was an adventure in and of itself. I eventually sold mine to a car collector out east who worked for Land Rover and sent a covered trailer to haul it back. They are unobtainium now. Fun, but quite frankly they were light years behind the Americans. This guy I knew had a modded '62 Nova II that could burn whole tires off doing doughnuts around that Spider if he had half a mind to, and my uncle had a '70 GTO convertible that could've bit that Fiat's head off with one swift bite, mazda rotary motor or not. Lol. The Spiders got fantastic gas mileage though.

And has taken a back seat to the new Ford Shelby gt500 750+ hp. Listed as they fastest production car made so far.

A freind of mine has a late model ZR1 & a Z06. He usually buys several through the years of each generation. Said he's gonna give it a minimum of 3 yrs. before jumping into a C8. Let's hope GM has upped their reliability on the next one but, I won't hold my breath. The Vette is way long overdue for a ME car.

Me and a friend (RIP Csaba) used to autocross an 850 spider back in HS and it's been so long I'd forgotten there was a difference. Our was the ugler later version like this but with alloy wheels.
