ronin457 psw10

psw 10 Why do so many people bash this ? Found one for 50. and it works fine . Have it with m20s in a 20x18 room and it sounds real good, to me any how. Also have lifestyle 38 yeah I know bose, old but it works, and it was free.

Thing is you don't know a good subwoofer from a bad one until you hear a good one. That's the main thing, people who see it as bashing are people who have lower expectations (I wish I was still like that to be honest). I had a PSW10 once, while it did an alright job pumping out bass it is NOTHING compared to even a PSW505 and doesn't hold a candle or even a match to light the candle to my Velodyne.

Hell I got the PSW505 for free (thanks Bruce) and got the Velodyne for $24 so deals are to be had.

For what it's worth I bought my PSW10 for $12 and sold it for $30.

The problems have been with some of the boards in them, I believe, and there's been what appears to be higher than normal failure rates with them.

That was my first sub not from a HTIB, and I too was rather impressed at the time. Glad you like it man, rock on!

That's not how works. There are 10" subs that can easily outperform a 12" or 15" sub. The performance of a sub is the sum of the design and build quality.

I have a psw10. Picked it up at a flea market for $5. It adds boom to speakers which have no boom. It doesn't dig deep, it's not refined, it's kind of a one note wonder. But my son, who was 7 when I gave it to him, likes it. So, meh, it stays

I am still using one in my HT system just because I am not that much into HT. One of the more obvious issues with the PSW10 is the port noise when you drive it harder. Stuffing a sock in the port helps. I made some mods to mine. I swapped the woofer for a DXi104 from Polk's car series subs. Best Buy had it on a Deal of the Day special. I also played around with damping material. It sounds much better but still not a great sub.

A sub that surprised the heck out of my is the Dayton SUB-1000 from Parts Express. I got one for my son a few years ago and it is deep and tight. https://www.parts-express.com/cat/powered-subwoofers/95

Exactly. I once thought the same, a 10 is better than an 8, a 12 is better than a 10 and so on so forth. Not the case, too many variables to make blanket statements. The only blanket statement I have heard that to an extent is true is that the smaller the diameter of the driver the tighter the bass is however I have heard 12s that are very fast and musical with tight bass so it isn't always true.
