Monitor 40 II Bookshelf
I just got a pair--pleased with them. I was intending to use a sub with them, but didn't get one yet. Hooked them up to an old school Sony stereo receiver, very basic. This amp had done fine for years running JBL L112's, plenty of bottom, no sub, no problem. They have moved on, retired them. Anyhow when I went to to EQ, I noticed a bass boost feature, which I had totally forgot about. I activated it, and it sounds terrific, with proper placement and a little added treble. The polk has (2) 5.25's plus HF.
My questions---Do I run the risk of hurting these new polks with to much LF? And even though I love the sound, am I shortchanging myself by not getting sub? And would bi-wiring yield any significant improvement?

The bass boost can be detrimental depending on what frequency it centers on and how much boost. Not to mention how loud you like to listen. If you like bass then get a sub (or two) as five and a quarter inch midwoofers can only do so much.
Otherwise if you don’t need to crank it and the bass is fine the way that it is, ENJOY! -

I wouldn't think the Bass Boost would mess anything up, so if you like the sound then rock on. That being said, MOST bookshelf speakers can benefit from a GOOD sub.
