Purchased these front Brent Jesse about a year ago. They have less than an hour on them, as I much preferred the mellow sounding Mullard tubes I bought to these in my system. Specific matching info is on the boxes as pictured.

I would say the sound signature is actually quite similar with the Mullards most being very very “warm” which worked better in my stereo to my ears, as I really like the warmth, the amperes are the better balanced and better reviewed tubes for sure. I could have lived with either in my system, just preferred the Mullards2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

What years are they? One says 1964 which mean short plate, small halo. It appears the other says 1959?? (on the box) Which mean either short plate, large halo or long plate, D getter.

That observation would have been much more appropriate in a pm vice in my for sale thread. Brent Jesse sold these to me as a matched pair so o trust him. They certainly appear identical. If what you’re saying is true, I guess he could have fubared the date

One of the halos does appear to be a bit bigger than the other, I’m unsure of what that means in the scheme of things. I will be calling Brent Jesse tomorrow as the seller/expert to see what he thinks on the situation before I sell these to anyone else2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

Wish we had a mod that could delete this conversation as I'm sure it will hurt sales potential but I'll address the tube matching here anyways.
I just got off the phone with Brent Jesse (who I purchased these tubes from), he did say there is differing halo size between the years of Amperex 12au7 but sonically they are IDENTICAL, as halo getter size does not sonically affect the tubes.
He did say some customers are very picky about this but he does not differentiate between the larger/smaller halo getters within series of tubes when he matches. He matches the tubes as the electrical values are the important part when matching the tubes since halo getter size difference doesn't sonically affect the tube.
This is all coming from Brent, who I consider to be quite competent in the tube game.
With that said, I will drop the price of these to 120 to encourage the interest back after my thread got derailed2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

I find the large halo sounds better than the smaller later halo. The larger halo is closest in sound to long plates! I have almost every variation of Philip Holland tubes, and they all sound different in my opinion. Great tubes no matter what variation you get. I even have some Philips Canadian made 7025A with large halos that sound almost identical
