My sub sounds boomy. What would you recommend my settings to be? I have an Onkyo TX-SR501 Receiver. I have the crossover set to 80KHZ, subwoofer mode to 1 so all bass goes to sub. Have it connected to sub output on receiver and connected by y cable to back of sub. Volume set to half way. Crossover on sub at 80HZ. Phase to Norm (Have Rev setting also). Any help is greatly appreciated.......THANKS

the solution to ur problem is get a new sub, look into brands like SVS and HSU....if u cant afford a new sub then try moving your sub to a different location in the room until u find the least boomy spot for it. you can also try to isolate it from the floor by putting a concrete or slate slab under neath it. you can buy concrete slabs or regular garden stones at places like home depot.

My buddy has a 10" 100W KLH and it always sounded boomy. Not like a SVS boomy but muffled boomy. i sold him my old Onk TXSR 500 (model before the 501), and i calibrated everything for him and it made it sound alot better. What do you have the gain/volume set at? How big is he room? Where is it placed? From the looks of your L/R. C and R cant be coming from those.

that would only do good for a downfiring sub....i THINK KLH only sells front fireing so that would not do much IMO

I own a KLH sub and found it to be boomy at first. I have tweaked things here and there and it is better now.
    Try these:
    1. line inside walls of sub with polyfill.
    2. turn sub volume in receiver settings down, my Sony has a range from -10 to +10, I have it set on -5.
    3. use only one input on the sub, dont use the Y connection.
It may improve enough with one or some of these tweaks done to it. Good luck. Im happy enough with my setup.

nope it works with all subs, downfiring or not. forward firing subs still vibrate, and those vibrations are still transfered to the floor. atleast thats how it is for my sub, and mine is forward firing. (i have wooden floors tho)
