Need help in picking out a ceiling fan

Options
There seem to be a lot of stats on the larger fans and it's somewhat confusing. We are looking for a 3 blade large fan with dimmable lighting. Since it will be in the area where we listen to music I want something that is capable of moving a fair amount of air but do it with a minimal amount of noise. Anybody have a make/model that fits the bill?

Why 3 blade ? Would a 5 blade move more air at a slower speed?

Generally ceiling fans with 5 blades have a different pitch on one or maybe more of the blades. IIRC, this reduces the noise.

We have a 5-blade Hunter downstairs and on low it moves quite a bit of air and is practically silent.

OTOH, my daughter wanted a table top fan for her room and didn't want to hear it. I agree with her about cheap table top fans that vibrate and make noise.

I found a Rowenta 12" Silent night fan that you pretty much cannot hear from 8' away, the HVAC is louder. Best small fan I ever bought.

Just a thought if you don't want to mount one, they also offer a 16" version now. They're pricey but on the lowest setting they are the quietest I've seen. A Vornado doesn't even remotely come close by comparison.

We like the look of 3 blade but if 5 blade moves more air with less noise then, that's the ticket.

Yes my Hunter 5 blade moves massive air. I have not notices any pitch difference in the blades. In my experience the fans are much quieter than years past. I believe between the motors that have changed and the new suspension plates with rubber bumpers that have reduced a lot if the noise. A larger diameter reduces that need to run faster to move more air.

    FWIW

Most every fan I've owned, if you watch the blades, the edge of one will have a slightly higher track.

I will say that when it comes to ceiling fans, you definitely get what you pay for. If you want quiet & well balanced, go for a good one. My favorites are, apparently, no longer available, unfortunately.

We still need one for our guest bedroom here... we had the room wired for one, but for reasons that escape me, we didn't actually have one put in there. Most other rooms in the house have 'em. The fans in this house are all Casablancas, but the model we used when this house was built (ca. 6 to 7 years ago now) is apparently NLA.

I picked up one of these, liked it so much I bought one for each of the bedrooms.... No motor noise, dimmable led, remote controlled, moves tons of air... Solid wood blades, built well

In reading some reviews I'm concerned about the brightness of the light. It will be the closest light to my tt, bright enough to place/brush a record on the platter?

I have quite literally 40 to 50 recessed cans all over my House so I don't use the light much, I actually liked it alot because of the small light.

I will say that if it is your primary light, you may not be satisfied.

In my experience 3 blade fans make more noise. We have one in our bedroom and it's great, but I can hear each blade as it moves over my head.

FYI, the less blades a fan has the more efficient it is because the motor works less and pushes against less air friction, but that doesn't mean quiet.

Motor, bearing and blade design all have a factor on noise. Why they don't make a blade like an owl's wing (silent), I don't know.
