Absinthe, as it is commonly known, or the Green Fairy. Once you know this and then see the movie, it makes more sense.
I also did some research on this drink. It is still available in Spain and a few other countries that will import it into the US (where it is illegal), just haven't found exactly which one I want to try. There seem to be quite a few different variations of the drink out there.
So, if any of our Polk friends can get there hands on some, I will gladly pay you to send it my way. I am dying to try it. But, I'd like to get some that is as close to the origional as possible.
Peace Out~:DIf...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Check this out! www.proust.com/absinthe_essay7.html
Ya gotta have that woodworm plant which is leagal to own in this country while Absinthe is. The link explains everything.
BTW-I know you have made beer Ron, maybe you could make this even if it takes a few trys. That is if you can't get the real thing by ordering it from some where online.
I know some people who made the real thing but I was 9 at the time. Maybe I can find a way to get their reciepe.Chris -
Ron-P,

This is suppose to be the closest to the original, that is legal. You can get 4 bottles of the 60% strong for $100. http://www.crillonimporters.com/Entr2-Absente.html
This is the new legal stuff that you are going to see in all the stores soon. I also have found the only place that sell the pure wormwood extract for it. I have both on the way on the way. Oh buy the way the Sebor "bottles" you can get for $25---go for over $70 on E-bay. Later   -
So I'm assuming that this is a hallucinogenic drink? Along the lines of peyote or such?? I'm just curious as to why it is illegal here in the U.S.?? Is this "thujone" considered a controlled/dangerous substance?? Hell! If they allow Everclear to be sold, why not this stuff?? How much worse could Absinthe be??
Ron -
Ya, Thujone is an hallucinogenic. You know how the US is about stuff like this. The reason it is illegal is simply because it is an addictive substance. Unlike caffine, cigarettes and alcohol-- right. The simple law of Absinthe is that it has to contain less than 10mg of wormwood. Which the legal stuff does. The original contains much much more. Thujone has the same chemical effect as cannabus but is a different chemical. The alcohol is so strong 55% or above that you will get drink before you get too "hi". But the mixture of the two is suppose to be wild. I can't wait to try it out. I'm not a druggy by along shot. I work under the FAA and get tested all the the time. But I like try new things. And it is a interesting part of our social history. Later

I have a good friend from the Czech Republic that lives here in Texas. He's quite the drink afficianado,,,I'll have to ask him about this stuff, and if he can get his hands on some. He's brought back some good spirits from there on several occasions, but no Absinthe that I recall. I'll have to give it a try, after I make sure that it won't cause any problems on a pee test of course! Later!

You ought to get a Wormwood plant from exotic or a speciality kind of plant store. Mash up some of the plant and let it soak in grain for a few weeks. Then add it to the weaker mixture which is leagle. It would be cheaper and closer to the real thing.Chris

Actually wormwood is pretty common and easy to grow. Cut it at the base and soak it in your favorite vodka for only 48 hours and you are basicly done but there are several other aromic herbs and spices.
