Tweeter Question (db6500)

I have my tweeters pretty much where I want them, but I'm having trouble with the sound. The tweeters are pretty much aimed directly at my head, and the highs are entirely too harsh. If I turn up the volume enough to get any midbass at all, vocals get hissy, guitars get sharp, and cymbols are an exersize in acoustic torture. I've attached a picture that should illustrate my problem.
My Alpine CDA-9815 has a parametric EQ, but I'd really rather solve this at the hardware level. Having a 9815, my system does not have an external amplifier, so I can't just tweak a gain somewhere. Is there a way that I can attenuate the tweeter section by, say, 3-6dB across the board? Can I reverse the tweeter output at the crossover, or reverse everything except the tweeter? I know just enough about speakers and passive crossovers to be dangerous, and I know I'm out of my league, but I have to ask.
I don't want to spend any more money on this than I have to, especially not to buy another crossover. I can be fairly handy with a soldering iron when I have to be, though. Fire away.
