Did anyone watch that movie last night? 10.5 on NBC.

I watched it. I liked it. It was a little cheesy at times, and that friggin' teenage girl that went camping with her dad should have been burried in the sink hole, but overall it was cool.

But, one thing is fer sure, NBC spent NO money on special effects. Two scenes stand out. (1) When the train fell into the giant cavern & (2) when the Golden Gate bridge fell down. These two scenes were such obvious miniature models that I was laughing out loud. I have a new appreciation for CGI effects.

The cheesy effects were obvious & abundant, but they didn't ruin the movie for me. I love the natural disaster movies, and this is a pretty good one.

Part II is on tonight. I can't wait to see the crap they try to pull when the nuclear explosion goes off.

I watched it too and enjoyed it as well. You're right, some of the effects were pretty cheesy and there was definately some questionable acting but overall a good watch. Looking forward to tonight. I live in the Seattle area so it was pretty trippy seeing the Space Needle go down. It was pretty funny that on the news following the show there was probably a 10 min segment on how it couldn't happen and the forces that the structure could withstand.

The most disturbing scene of the whole first movie had to have been when the two fat, sweaty white guys were trying to play basketball. That was super ****!! The guy that shot the 3-pointer was staring at the ball the entire time he was dribbling it. No skills.

cheesy yes, but i liked it too.

some of the effects were low budget that's for sure.. but it is TV for petes sakes.

I like the part when the Space Needle came tumbling down. I thought that was one of the better special effects moments. They must have blown their whole wad on that one, and the rest of the movie will just peter out. :p

They even mentioned my city of Spokane. and several neighboring areas where i live.

Yeah that teen girl was driving me crazy with everything she said or did.

i'll be watching it tonight as well. Tonights the big one.

I liked it, too. The train scene was kind of funny, but I had to remind myself that this was a "made for TV" movie. I thought the story was pretty compelling, and most of the acting was pretty good. Entertainment Weekly's gave it a "D", which I thought was really unfair. What the heck were they expecting? Anyways, I can't wait for part II. Take care, everyone.

Part II was a little disappointing. The entire first hour was a total waste of time. The movie kept trying to introduce new dynamics to develop the characters, which was totally unnecessary. The movie wasn't good enough to need additional character development.

But, hour #2 was much better. I think it was great that the nuclear bomb idea didn't work 100%. The "Big One" was sweet. The special effects were much, much better in hour #2 of Part II.

Overall, I think this was a good made for TV flick. I'm still alittle disappointed that the teenage girl didn't fall into the earth at some point. She sucked.

I actually thought it was kind of dumb. It was watchable, but kind of chessy. The special effects were nothing to write home about (although some of them were pretty cool). But the plot barely existed (for a 4 hour movie), and the acting was hardly there.

I was able to tell it was going to be lacking when they would show a preview of the next action scene before each comercial break.

    Just my opinion.

Man you guys are kinda rough on the special effects...

It's a freakin' made for TV movie...what do you expect...the budget for that movie was probably like 1/100th of what they spend on a huge production movie...

All the CGI movies (LOTR, Star Wars, Matrix ect.....) have spoiled us. We have come to expect a very high level when it comes to special effects. So when we watch a movie like 10.5, it is almost comical to see model trains floppin' around, or the model of the Golden Gate bridge that fell into a bathtub in someones model train setup.

Again, I actually liked the movie. Yeah, it was cheesy as all hell, and some of the actors sucked, but I still liked it. But those special effects were beyond lame.

I didn't mean to chop on the specail effects. Even though the movie bit, I kind of liked them. I enjoy the "looks like a model" special effects. It kind of reminds me of The Thunderbirds. I just wouldn't call them "good".

But I am pissed that the new Thunderbirds movie is going to be real people! What's the point? Do we need Bill Paxton in another staring roll? (even they don't blow up a 2 foot train pulled by a piece of wire, I am going to be pissed!).
