I just bought the Rti8 and Csi3 for my home theatre. I think overall they sound pretty good. I have only put 10hrs on them. I was wondering if there will be a big improvement after breakin. I do notice that the Rti8 lacks a little bass given that it is a floorstanding speaker. What is the breakin period for these speakers?

    Votoms,

I just purchased these same speakers a little over a week ago. The "break-in" period that I've read about is in the range of 100 hours. I'm not quite there yet, but I have noticed a significant improvement in the sound quality while watching movies and listening to music this past weekend.

In regards to the bass for the RTi8, I can understand that it is a bit lacking. I'm running a pair of subs for bass reinforcment. I've never been happy with the bass response for many speakers, so I've committed myself to using a sub for its intended purpose - to produce bass that other speakers are not capable of. :)

What are you guys powering your Rti8's with? If you want bass, the more juice you give 'em, the more you'll get in return.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    Early,

I'm powering mine with a Yamaha HTR-5760 receiver from their new model lineup.

I don't care for pushing speakers with large amounts of power because I do a lot of "off hours" listening. The family and neighbors wouldn't really appreciate it.

However, that is where my subs come into play. Plenty of bass for me at low or higher volumes which is provided by a pro audio amp pushing over 450 watts to each channel. :)

just because u have high current wattage, or alot of wattage to your speakers doesnt mean that they will be extra loud at the same volume

My new CSi3 has definitely improved in sound quality with 60-75 hours on it thus far . The tweeter has "calmed" down quite abit to a MUCH more natural sound (alot less harsh in the upper end). The dialog in the movie I watched last night was very pleasing . ;)

quite what I have right now.. I will see later (few weeks) if they improove (normally, the R series I have should be lower end quality wise, and they actually sound better.. but I have them for near 2 years)

Well now that I think of it , I MAY have alot more hours on the CSi3 than I orginally thought ; up to a 150-200 hrs . I have run my system "almost" 24-7 (or when ever possible) for the last 2+ weeks at low to mid volumes . But there has been a definite sound change , and for the better , during my mild break-in .

That is what I figured...about 100hrs. Even though I have only put about 24hrs on them. I really think they are great. The only complaint is the lack of Bass. I hope the bass improves after the full break in period. I do have a subwoofer in the system. In my system they are mainly used for HT. I have a separate 2-channel setup. This is my set up:

    Home Theatre:

    Sony 46WT510S HDTV
    Sony DVP-725S DVD Player
    Harman Kardon AVR-210 Receiver
    Polk Audio Rti8 Speakers (front)
    Polk Audio Csi3 Speaker (center)
    Mirage M190i Speakers (surround)

    2 Channel Stereo:

    Sony TA-E1000ESD Pre-amp
    Sony TA-N55ES Power Amplifier
    Klipsch Reference RB-3 Speakers

You have to remember the csi3 is a fairly small speaker. Don't expect miracles out of small boxes. The csi5 will provide big improvements over the csi3.

True, very true. Unfortunately, I don't have 15" of depth on the shelf for my center channel speaker, so I can't use the CSi5. But, I do find the CSi3 to be more than adequate for my movie viewing sessions and with DPL IIx when listening to music. :)
