    I was so saddened and surprised to hear that on the radio. I guess I was glad to hear he was 83, but that made me feel old.

    I remember when he arrived in Baltimore. Baltimore baseball was never the same.

    In the old Memorial Stadium, there used to be a flag marking the spot where he sent a baseball hurtling out into the Waverly neighborhood. The flag said, simply, "here".

    (I am tearing up a little bit, now)
