Today I received my new(to me) ClearAudio Goldfinger V2. I had very high hopes for this one, given the performance capabilities of my analog rig, and after several hours with it mounted on my table, I can say that it certainly lives up to it's extraordinary claims.
Retailing for $16,000, it is so far above anything I thought I would ever get to experience at home, on my own table. Microdetail is elevated into the stratosphere, and bass details are deep, rich and powerful. Complex pieces are broken down into their individual instruments and painted across an elegant soundstage that is bigger and deeper than I have ever heard vinyl before.
Every album in my collection is a new adventure to listen to. Right now, "Live and Let Die" is playing, and the angry and aggressive growl of the horn section comes through with such force and resonance that it feels like they could be in the room with me. I will post more thoughts over the next couple days, but I am already re-thinking my plans to digitize my vinyl. It has never been this good.
