Black Hawk Down

Tonight I'm going to see Black Hawk Down. Should be a great movie. A Ranger friend of mine got a boot leg copy and said it was intense and non-stop, and to quote him, "They died-I cried." Well, I'm man enough to admit that I cried for SPR, so I'll probably get all tore up tonight too. Oh well.

I want to see this as well. I am fascinated by this because I was involved with the humanitarian airlift mission to Somalia. While I wasn't in Mogadishu when the attack went down, I had good friends that were.
That was an event that I still can't believe......some third world scumbag was attacking US GI's and our gov't did absolutely nothing about it. I also firmly believe that this laid the foundation for what we are going though today. I honestly believe that if the US had really wreaked havoc on those scumbags, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Great Movie,
For me and allot of the people around me not use to seeing such realistic look at the situation, it was very intense. I saw allot of young girls that went to see this movie just to check the military guys and they got a little more than what they expected. This is a must see for such an amazing and heroic true story. The movie reaffirms the dedication and duty of our elite soldiers. It will take you in and show you another world. *****

great movie, very grainy - feels like you're right there in the conflict. impresive sound, some great cinematic shots, good story. doens't really overplay anything, doesn't make someone out as some great hero, just let's you you enter the world of our special forces and get caught up in the ride....
only flaws, were it seemed a little long, and some of the scenes seemed a little repetitive, got caught in the sames situations time and again, seemed very real and true though, not to over glorify anything...
don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone.
if you're heading to the theater, i definitely recommend this...:D -
I stumbled on the book some time ago and it left a lasting impression. I would really reccommend it to anyone who enjoyed the movie. I saw the movie on the weekend and was also very impressed. It would be impossible to do a full interpretation of the book in a two and a half hour movie but they did an incredible job with it. Someone mentioned that the situations seemed repetitive, while this is true is also true to what occured. The men involved must have felt that it was never going to end.
I can't reccommend this movie strongly enough.

Ditto EJ on the repetitive stuff. That's what actually happened. The convoy was told one thing, then told to turn around and go right back through the street they just went down. I was a nervous wreck the whole movie. Very apprehensive. My heart rate was definitely elevated the whole time. Didn't cry per se, but did get teary-eyed a couple of times. I also agree that swift, violent, hard response to this incident would've been a major deterrent and possibly could have prevented or at least lessened what is going on today. ****' Clinton...

A buddy of mine just finished downloading BHD and LOTR. I should get them today and watch them over the weekend.

I saw something on discovery channel a while back on the Black Hawk down situation. I was very impressed with the special forces after I saw this. They lost 18 men that day due to poor intellegence on an hostile's capabilities but took several hundred Somalies with them who were very well armed.
As one spec. op said: "There's nothing more demoralizing to an enemy than seeing their buddies next to them getting sniped off with one shot, one kill." -
I pulled this one way back but had to post somewhere about this movie.
Last night I decided to finally watch the movie that had been sitting on my DVD rack for about 5 or 6 months without having been watched. I should first say that it's amazing that we were so unprepared to handle a situation like what was experienced back then.
In regard to actually sitting and watching the movie......I felt like i lost 2+ hours of my life that I wont' ever be getting back. It's almost as bad as the feeling that I had after spending money AND going to a theater to see Cable Guy. I felt like I was actually experiencing EVERY....SINGLE......MINUTE of what they were going through. Not in the aspect of the action......but when 2 hours of sitting on a couch feels like 12 hours of battle, there's something wrong.
Maybe it's a little different when you're watching a movie that's entirely done to depict a scene for scene aspect to what happened, but this movie, in direct comparison to We Were Soldiers, totally sucked A$$ to me.
This one's soon to make it to Ebay, or here if I finally get around to going through everything that i have to thin out my collection.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

This DVD is a keeper for me.
I reviewed it several months ago, and yes, it plays like a docu-drama more than a real movie. Scott intended this, certainly. And I can see how it might not be to everyone's liking. It actually gets better with multiple viewings.
FWIW for the bass heads out there - the Irene scene where the choppers lift off has strong bass to 8 Hz as confirmed on an RTA by a HTF member. I can "only" get to 11 Hz on my sub and only at moderate volumes, but it was pretty cool to play that scene with my SS filter set to 12 Hz and FEEL the bass more than hear it.

I'm with Bret on this one.
The sound and action were great, but......:(Make it Funky! -
Personally I'm not into extras. I don't care for set design , costume design, location, altenate endings etc. but this movie was an exception.
This release was like Apollo 13 a few years back. You had your choice, a Dts version with no extras or a DD one with documentaries and astronaunt interviews. Both had great soundtracks, give the Dts an edge but only that. Naturally i chose the DD track as the story of 3 guys just floating off into space was worth knowing more of.
Btw, I just picked up the B.H.D. special edition and man ! The A&E special showing true images of U.S. soldiers being dragged in the streets makes you shake your head.Polk Rt800i -Fronts

No offense but haven't we become a bit spoiled here ? Check any review on this disc and the DD soundtrack is marvelous. Adding a dts track may or may not improve what is already great. Even at that, how much an improvement can there be? Maybe 10 % better to our subjective ears ?
This disc is loaded and deserves the treatment. A great disc and a great memoriam to those who have fallen !!! -

If you're into a movie for the extras (as was said above) then it makes it worth the purchase. With probably 398 of the roughly 400 movies that I have, I haven't ever once clicked on the extras. Like I initially mentioned, it's amazing that the situation even got to the point that it did, regretably as it is......I'm not discounting the real world event. It was a dramatic and scary ordeal, but it's just not the *TYPE* of movie that I would ever sit down and expect to be entertained by, simply because of the way that it was shot as Doc mentioned above bored me off my ****.
Don't be all taking it personal because I don't like the movie......I just didn't.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
