Hey, y'all;
I wonder if any of you remember me. Anyways, I was at a salvation army type place and they had a few sets of speakers. Among them was a pair of Scott 208D speakers. They looked pretty nice; they have a 1.75 inch tweeter and an 8 inch woofer. I have two days to return them if I don't like them. Have any of you ever heard of Scott speakers?? Are they any good?? What about these?? Should I just keep them for $25 a pair?? I'd really appreciate some quick input. Thanks!

Hey, I've been really impressed with how responsive y'all usually are, and I really hope that everyone will jump on this thread; I only have 2 days I can return them. Then again, it was only $25. Thanks in advance for the info. ;);)

Thus far, I haven't been able to find out anything about them on the web; I'll keep looking. I'm going to try to post some of their pictures, but this is a first so it may not work. :D

Here's a pic of one of the speakers:

Here's a close-up of the label on the front:

    Here's a close-up of the woofer:

    Here's a close-up of that weird-looking surround:

Here's a picture of the sticker on the back; it just talks about wires, phasing, and speaker placement:

Has anyone ever seen a surround like that?? Is that ok?? What do you guys think?? Thanks!!

I've inspected the surrounds a little now, and I'm really disappointed. They really seem to be made of leather, and they 'rip' wherever I touch them. They are really, umm, soft, and wheverever I push on them, it will rip. Now, the bass really sounds good and the woofers don't move much at all. Is it really bad for the surround to be like that?? Could I replace it?? Could I just buy a new woofer?? Or, should I just return them tomorrow (my last day to return them) and get my $25 back?? Thanks.

    Manufacture Years: 1982 - 1990
    Retail
    MSRP: $250.00
    USED: $37.00
    Wholesale
    Mint: $21.00
    Average: $12.00

Looks like you paid a lil more than avg, but even if they sound good, do you want speakers that are falling apart by just touching them?

I'd return them, if they will take them back with damage they didn't have when you left with them.......

    Brett,
Thanks a lot for the replie. I don't know how much longer they'll last, but I've fallen in love with them. The amount bass they put out is really amazing!! They put out more than my dad's speakers, and they have 2 8" woofers!!
Where did you find that information on the Scott speakers?? I've looked all over the internet (I thought) and couldn't find a thing on them. I'd really love to know where you found that out. I heard that some of Scott's stuff are collectors items....could these be??
I've thought that when the woofers finally go I would buy some 8" woofers from Radio Shack. Would that work? Where else could I buy woofers? And, if these could be worth something, I might want to stop pushing 'em so hard.
    Thanks a lot!!

I don't have any idea about the collectability of those speaks. If ya like the way they sound, then keep them, but replacing an 8" OEM with an 8" Rat Shack driver isn't going to produce the same results. The pricing came from Orion Bluebook......
