What is your opinion of this amp and what would you pay for one that is 8 years old?

It looks to be in very good condition and is located about 30 minutes from me.

I'm thinking about trying to get it to pair with my Yamaha 2070 for 2 channel listening.

  • I personally do not care for the Classic series. Much prefer the HCA series for 2 channel.

I might agree with Motor above. Really all depends on the sound your looking for. The Classic series will have a bit more detailed sound , maybe a tad more sterile over the HCA series. HCA is more musical to my ears, a tad on the warmer side of neutral. Halo series is big on detail retrieval, but also lacks some musicality to my ears.

With Polk speakers, the HCA series works well. It's not the cutest kid on the block, but sounds more musical with Polk speakers to these ears.

Thanks for the feedback, it sounds like I need to continue to look for a HCA1500 or a B&K Reference 200.2.

Halo is out of my budget at this time.

The B&k will be a touch smoother on the top end. If I had to choose between the 2, I might tip the scale to the B&k. That's not putting down the HCA either, it's a fine amp on it's own no doubt.

  • I had one powering my lsim 703's and I loved it.
  • Yep, add B&K to your list.

Halo is out of my budget at this time.

An HCA-1200 series two would also offer plenty of power for your speakers, just to expand the possibilities a bit.
