i doing a major upgrade for my ht. new ati amp and all lsi speakers.
my main towers will be the lsi25 my problem is whether i should change my rears to ls/fx or lsi9.
my seating is 9 feet from towers and 9.6 feet from my current rears. i have a large 4 by 6 picture window behind me [covered with shade and heavy drapes] so my speakers are mounted high and straight behind our seats. my wife and i sit with a small table between us which puts us just inside of our towers.
my thought is to get a lsi/c to go between the rears just over the window. i was thinking from what i have heard and seeing as my rears are so far behind me that lsi/9 would be the way to go. the problem with the lsi/9 is they will have to be mounted very high [7 feet] and angled down. this is so they will be near the same height of rear lsi/c. i will have to be creative in making their mount so i do not want to do this if there is not a big gain over the lsifx.
anyone mounted lsi/9s high and/or angled them? also side speakers are not an option. thanks henry

You'll need a shelf or an extremely stout mounting braket bolted to the 9's. They weigh nearly 50lbs each.

Although the ATI is a great amp, you can save a boat load of money by purchasing the Outlaw amp instead. They are the same internally. The Outlaw 755 goes for $1299, and the ATI AT2005 MSRP is approx. $2400.

the weight of the ls/9 speakers are not the limiting factor here. I live in a log home and one thing my walls are good for is mounting heavy objects. i am just wondering whether it will be better to fill the room with sound [ls/fx] or have the side to side movement of sound [ls/9] as i have with my front speakers.

Henry, do you listen to any SACD or DVD-A multichannel music ? Direct speakers like the 9's sound better for that kind of material than do surround speakers like the FX's. For movies however I think you will appreciate the diffuse surround field created by the FX's, because the 9's won't sound that great coming from dead behind you IMHO. (by great I mean "surrounding" They will sound more like point sources)

    I would get the FX's.

What makes you decide on the ATI amp? there are a lot of amps out there..

Ceruleance, i am leaning toward the fx. as for the ati it's just a mater of short list elimination. i have heard alot of positive reviews of ati. i am one of the few people who really has to buy without hearing. i live in the bush of northern bc and go south to vancouver once a year. it's a 14 hour drive. i usually get some dealer to ship north for me. henry
