Marty was pretty much wholly responsible for the San Francisco sound. He owned the Matrix club in SF and put together the Airplane as the house band, and the rest is history.
RIP, to a pioneer.The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

He also put together Jefferson Starship which morphed into Starship. I saw them in the mid-70’s - the band was great but Grace was so drunk apparently she fell down and they had to carry her off stage. The show then abruptly ended.

Great Tune last good Starship album, however Marty was no longer in the band during that album.
