Oh, right, I see that now.
Distant cousins, right? -
Thanks to all who wished us well and prayed for us. I believe it helped!!
This was the worst storm I've experienced WIND wise. Truly scary wind gusts. I thought the house was going to get lifted off the foundation from a couple of them, really.
I had a little rain blow in that gable vent on the front of the cottage and the insulation got a touch wet along the wall. Nothing to be concerned about at all though.
23" of rain fell here at my house at least! Hugo flooded our yard worse but our area hadn't had rain for 3 weeks or more when Florence came over us. I'll show a pic of a church just around the corner from my house that ALWAYS floods and I don't think it was any worse than any other time I've seen their yard flooded but some BIG Pines were blown over that were in their soaked yard.
We JUST got the power turned back on and the house is comfortably cool and less humid again.
I feel bad for the others were affected seriously seeing the TV pictures now. Flooded houses and washed out roads. Thousands in serious need of survival needs and shelter. I will be buying a nice generator when things calm down. Our fairly new fridge kept things fine for 72 hours. Our porch freezer lasted for the same but we're still going to check some things in there closer.
My wife, house cat and speakers and electronics are all safe and dry! No damage to anything but a window rain visor on my car. But there was a Wild Cherry tree on the property line beside my cottage that took a serious blow! I'll show a pic of the trunk that's left. The top 2/3 was snapped off and thrown past the privacy fence the neighbors just put up a month or so ago. The huge part of that tree that broke off didn't touch it. I would've thought it would've fallen towards the ground first and then fallen over but noooo, the gust of wind that snapped it, blew it about 8' away before it fell to the ground. If it snapped the other way, the back room maybe would've been destroyed and flooded with rain. The same neighbor had a big Magnolia tree section fall. The tree is old and had 3 trunks growing up. One hurricane snapped one trunk at the base. The home owner only cut up what fell and didn't have the rest cut down. That was about 3 or 4 homeowners ago though. I have a pic of that two. Right beside that fallen Magnolia tree is a wet-suit dring pole the next neighbor put up and two Rock Doves are perched on it looking at all the destruction in that yard. Kind-of weird in a way. Maybe they had a nest and were wondering what they were going to do now...
Mr. Watkins, I'm glad your somewhat OK too. I hope your beach home isn't too damaged from that suspected broken window.
I lost power Thurs. night (9:15PM I think) right after that last post I put on here about the wind gusts getting serious. It came back on at 10:15AM Mon., today. 3 1/2 days.
A local area just 5 miles South ( Monkey Junction) never lost power. Having that area still trying to help this area with food, ice and supply's kept thousands ( including myself ) from completely losing all hope and getting in our cars and leaving for someplace else.
I'm tired and I just remembered, I have to put the pictures I took onto my PC to show my little street and that church's flooded yard and downed pines. I went to Monkey Junction and bought some propane thinking we were going to need to boil soup for a week or have steak from the grocery stores that were coming back onto the grid and opening. The lines for GAS and ICE are 100 cars or people long. And then we heard from the radio ( which was on batteries and stayed on almost 24hrs. a day ) some who waited for 2 hours for gas or ice, didn't get any because they ran out just before they got to the front of the lines. That's gotta suck big time!
Lastly but should be first. A big THANK YOU to the electrical response techs that work to get POWER back into our lives. The chainsaw people too. We were hearing chainsaws and generators everywhere around here. I expect to hear less generators tonight.
Sorry about not being able to contact the forum but I figured Sat. at the longest,we would be back on the grid. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Glad to hear you guys are OK!!

Here is a video of a neighborhood just 7 miles North / East of me. It was built on a swampy area years ago. The owners dug drainage ditches to drain the acreage. They let it sit for years. Then it got developed. This is the result; "Ogden NC."
