Hey everyone!
With the warm weather now here, a couple of incidents have made me change my mind about selling the Mustang.
First up, this warm weather reminded me how fun it was to cruise around in that thing on warm summer nights. My Explorer is awesome, but the Mustang has an essence all it's own!
Second, while at the grocery store the other night, I was walking across the parking lot and 2 seriously modified Stangs drove right by me. Simply hearing the roar of their exhaust told me..DON'T DO IT!!! YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!
Third, I thought back to what I originally intended to do with my Mustang. I had said for years that I was going to bust my **** in school so I could have a career that would allow me to buy another vehicle and be able to promote the Mustang to weekend toy status. I now have a good start to my new career. My thought is, why should I settle for less than what I really want and will work hard for. Alot of money, sleepless nights and hard **** work went into that thing over the last few years. It would literally be a crime to just let it all go in the name of getting a few grand for it. That money will go to paying off some bills, which no doubt will reappear again in the form of some other item.
Screw this, the Mustang stays! I'm passing it to a friend who is going to work on the problems it's been having. The biggest...it needs a new starter. From there, he'll do his usual amazing performance tune up job to it.
Summer is here! It's time to ROCK!

Details man details!! Wheat year, engine, mods, etc. Yeah, replacing those starters is a ****, If I remember correctly, we had to jack the engine up.
-
It's a 93 LX. I had a custom 347 Stroker built back in mid 2002. The engine was pretty much all new except for the original block, which was stroked out. There are too many parts to list, but a few big things on it are Edelbrock heads, intakes, throttle body and EGR spacer. Crane Gold Race roller rockers. Keith Black pistons. MAC headers and the entire exhaust. 3.55 gears. Most of the suspension was replaced.
Literally everything under the hood is new. Only a few items were reused like the previously mentioned starter (DAMN IT!!!), AC compressor and a few other small items.
It really is a monster!

Nice. I bet that thing kicks **** in 1/8 mile street races. You gotta keep it, if not you'll be beating yourself up 5 years from now.
Lay some rubber for me!

I talked to my brother recently about his old Dodge Challenger he got rid of about 20 years ago. That thing was flat out effin badass! Had something like a 440ci V8 modifed to the max. I remember when he would start it up in the morning. The neighbors house windows would vibrate! They would get all pissed since this was 6 in the morning that he would be doing this as he was going to work.
He's still beating himself up over that sale!
One of the worst things in life is regretting having done or not done something. I'm not going to make the mistake he did 20 years ago.
We'll see how it does at the 1/4 mile strip this summer!

Keep it. Nice 5.0 Fox bodies are getting harder to find now that they are 10+ years old. That and the fact that lots of folks seem to trash them because all they know is that it will go fast and don't have a clue how to keep it up.
Mine is parked in a garage until the day I can afford to redo it to original condition (with a few tweeks here and there). Of couse that will be in 6 years when the youngest gets out of college(unless that volleyball scholarship come through!).

Shack,
Mine is the same body style, only its red with a Saleen spoiler on the back. This body style is more rare than the hatchback.
I'm in the same boat as you. It's going to take several years to get the paint done and interior mods, but it'll be a fun project.
This August will be it's 11th birthday.

Congrats John on keeping the stang. When I bought the Pathfinder a couple of years ago I thought long and hard about selling "Nelly" my '94 5.0 convertible but I'm glad I didn't.
I used to have a '93 GT and traded it in for "nelly" in '94. My car had Ms. America in it for a parade in Baton Rouge. I bought it the week after with about 200 miles on it (great deal on it).
Mildly modified with BBK underdrive pulleys, Motorsport 3.55 gears, K&N air filter, Hurst shifter, BBK aluminum clutch quadrant & cable, Dynomax catback exhaust. The '94 and '95 models were the last two years of the 5.0 in the new body style and the '94 was the 30th year anniversary mustang and Motor Trend's "car of the year." She has a tad over 100K miles on her and still pulls hard. I drive her on weekends and such and its just pure euphoria after driving the SUV all week. Glad I kept her.

Sounds like you were in the same situation as I am. With the new Explorer back in February, I had been toying with getting rid of the Mustang for various reasons. I really did come up with several excuses to get rid of it. Everything from financial to growing up and not needing that thing any longer.
Well, I really do need it. Keeping it was my original plan years ago. My goal was to complete school, get a career going, buy a new vehicle and promote the Mustang to weekend toy. Selling it would go against my plan which has been working out for me very well thus far.
About 4 hours ago, I fired it up for the first time in about 2 1/2 months. The starter had one shot left in it and it kicked in like a champ. I forgot how loud it is. I miss that sound! It has a real deep choppy sound. Music to my ears!
Nice ride Pjdami. Have ya tried to get Ms. America back in it again?

Hey john, keep it, keep it, keep it. I don't have a stang but I do have my first car that I paid for, a 88 dodge daytona shelbyz turbo II intercooled, I have massive plans for it down the road and just cannot wait to complete them. Guess that may be a while as the money just aint flowin in quick enough right now, if I can squander enough by mid summer I may try to start the engine rebuild.
Plans are to beef up the stroke, new cam, lighter flywheel, new balanced crank, new turbo, and mod chip. Also plan on a new intake system and exhuast. Not sure what else I will be doing and I guess I will cross that road when I get to it. I now it was a screamer when it was bone stock from the factory.

Hey hotwheelman.... nice ride. Those T2 engines were screamers, especially if built right. If they can propel a minivan to a 13 second 1/4 mile, they can do wonders for the daytona. What tranny does that have in it?

Keep it. In a few months the money would be forgotton and you would be without a mustang. Whats the point, you would just buy another one a year or two down the road and put a lot more money in it.

Nadams, I believe it has the german made getrag tranny. Dad had a 86 omni glh that had been completly modded and that was one scary ride. Had a freind with a 87 stang (no offense to the stang owners), I turned onto the four lane beside of him, he got on it hard and I nailed the throttle and left his **** in the dust. We stopped down the road and I have never saw such a look of bewilderment in all my days. He just kept asking me if I was sure that was a four cylinder under there. Wish dad had never sold that one.
I don't have a stang but I do have a 72 maverick that my grandmother has given to me and needs a full restore due to sitting in the yard since about 88. She is the original owner, my grandad worked for a local ford dealer and bought it for 1300 dollars new. Wish a car could be had for that now."Its worked so far but we're not out yet."

Well that reminds me of the time with a well tuned 73 firebird a friend own, I worked on.
One day driving down the road when a 69 or 70 Nova SS with his girl friend in the car. He step'd on it We Step'd on it We were say a car length ahead when HE put the thing into a lower GEAR and I will say never heard any Chevy Small Block spin higher. I thinking 7 grand plus here, and that "Well Tuned Firebird was walking away from his Screaming small block with his girl friend face looking like what the F was that.Originally posted by hotwheelman
