Sub Stand

Hello,
Today it was suggested to me to put my sub on a 3" to 4" stand getting it off the ground. Guy who suggested it says he has his on foam blocks, said it sounds a lot better. Guy lives off the path but I do plan on paying him a visit within a week or so.
What do you guys think? I can build a stand cheap out of scrap to get it off the ground more. You think it would actually change the sound that much?
Cheers.

When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.
