I bought it, read it, but it just didn’t click with me. I do know someone who had him come to his house and setup his room, and swears by him.

I have the book and dvd. Jim can be a little dry, and the dvd is not really needed if you read the book. I bought several pieces from his high-end store, Audition, in Birmingham, AL, in the late 70s and early 80s. He knows his stuff. Try some of his ideas and see what you think. One that works for me and several friends is moving your equipment from between your speakers even if that means longer cables. He has a lot of experience setting up systems at shows. Overall, I recommend the book highly.

That there is some BS... I could hear the difference between 192 and 256 on my Creative Labs computer speakers... Then again at 320...

I can't imagine the difference I would hear on some of the rigs I have now.

stretchl, what I love about him is he doesn't just play to his company's tune, he has an amp for all the masses needs! He does believe in the ESL for a sonic transducer, warts and all...but not opposed to a magnetic cone speaker if designed properly, and he knows there are some out there.


I wish I had the $$'s for the big Magtech amp, my ML Summits will suck the but outta a cat, even with 800w from D amps driving the woofers.
Wicked load, oh well, I'm a midrange fool...

Right now, the SAE A1001, 500watts continuous @8ohms, about a full kilo into 2ohms where the Summits live. I also have a little SAE 202, 100watts @8ohms for low listening sessions, never a **** or hiccup from her, I can shut down the big boy for a few milliseconds driving the panels, it does not like the wicked load, fans help, I don't push it too hard, It's pristine, all 98lbs of it.

For a preamp, my fav now is the Sumo Electra Plus, an Acurus L10 I bought from very high reviews from several online buddies, a Yamaha CX600U for that fabulous variable loudness control. Woof!!
