Why do they put high end speaker cables in these fancy carrying cases? Does anyone actually carry their cables around with them?

There are a few manufacturers that have that kind of marketing for their high end cables, not just MC. It does add value for some people, as it's presentation is very nice. I personally don't care if it comes wrapped in tinfoil or a paper bag, as long as it works.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Not sure if they still do, but Audioquest used to package their factory-terminated cables in metal film cans. I'm talking the big reels a movie projector would use.

They would also have the cables wrapped in plastic, and provide a pair of white gloves for you to wear while handling the cables - to keep the contaminates and oils on your meathooks off the cables.

I've always hoped to get an official Polk Labcoat to wear around my SDA's (nothing underneath of course), but that offer has yet to present itself.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Russ - We should chip in to send Jesse some gloves for when he handles cables :D Perhaps mittens would be best.

No joke, his cables need to ship with a midget in the box to hook them up.

When my best friend bought some Kimber PBJ (PBJ = peanut butter and jelly)cables, they came in a ziplock sandwich baggie.

Not anymore. No cans...no wrapped in plastic...no gloves...at least up through the Copperhead. Now this is for the shop here loacally. Just in a box with your run-of-the-mill hard pastic inserts. I guess the marketing gimick proved to be of little value vs the cost.

I'm talking AQ Slate, Granite, etc.

Copperhead isn't very high up the AQ chain.

The less the cables are bent around in shipment the less burn in they will need.

That sounds like new age hooey Max, and I am a upgraded cable supporter ;) I don't plan on getting that involved.
