Refinishing RTA12B Cabinets

I am the original owner of a pair of RTA12bs now twenty or twenty one years old. Does anyone know if this model was available in wood veneer as opposed to the woodgrain paper finish? I would like to re-finish the cabinets so these still great sounding speakers wold look a little more classy, but don't want to adversly affect the accoustical properties. My gut feeling tells me that no adverse change would happen, but it would be nice to know if veneer was a factory option.
